Awesome deal for the Lakers. Not a max deal and in the horrible possibility that he is injury plagued then it doesn't completely kill the Lakers. LOVE the team option for the 4th year
Worth it. 4 years isn't much. Who's a FA in 4 years BTW? Good for some championship runs with Kobe and Pau....then have flexibility if they want to dump him after that.
lol...no. Big men are always overpaid (see Kwame Brown) with what he has shown he is very worth it and only be worth it more as the years progress
IMO it's the same mistake the Blazers made with Randolph. They should have waited, offered him a QO and then let the market establish his value. They could have given him the same contract this summer.
There was worry it was going to become a distraction. The Lakers can handle some extra luxury tax and the contract isn't terribly long.
not even close...this was the discount he paid for security...if he had made it thru this season with no problems the 100 out of 100 times he is getting max
doubtful. if he stays healthy someone would likely have made a crazy 4-5 year guaranteed offer and they'd be forced to match.
Basically the Lakers are giving a guy 14.5 million a year based on potential For his career he's averaged 7 and 5... Yes I know he came out of HS and yes he definitely showed good promise last season, until he missed 47 games. It might be the way thigns go in the NBA but it doesn't change the fact that they could have had him cheaper this upcoming summer.
Oh man! Funny shit. I thought people skewed the number when they say 13/10 for last year (last 15 games 17/11/3blk) but to go to 7/5...thanks for the laugh
He got 13 million or so in the 1st year of his extension. A max contract offer is just under 14mil for Bynum.
Ok show me where his Career Stats aren't 7 and 5? I did acknowledge that he came straight from HS, but apparently that doesn't automatically indicate to you that his numbers would be lower initially, I said he showed promise until he got hurt. He averaged 17 and 11 for the last third of the games he played in last year which means he must have averaged lower than 13 and 10 in the other 32 games he played in. Probably in the neighborhood of 10 and 9 or so. That screams max contract. I also said he might deserve that money. I personally just have a problem witht eh tactic of giving a guy near max when he has only showed promise.
You guys here just dont appreciate the situation of the Lakers and Bynum. You dont see every game, every play, every interview (same goes for me and POR). You cant put any stock into Bynums first couple of years, he was young, undeveloped, going into a tough offense to learn, and most importantly played for PJ, the biggest rookie hater of all the coaches. He showed flashes during his first few year, just couldnt do it consistently. Last season he came in as a backup to Kwame. Not only was it Kwame's crappy play but Bynum's stellar play that forced him into the starting lineup. The dude is a defensive monster and its no fluke that he was leading the league in FG%, and dont give me no crap about alley-oops(yes they help) because the kid has moves of his own that range out all the way to a ten footer. If I were to list all the reasons this is good it will go on forever and frankly Ive tried before but naysayers just blow me off even though Ive watched every second of his NBA career
Sorry DaRizzle I respect ya man, but similar things have been said about many big men who get (near)max deals, and then people complain when they don't live up to the money.
he only got 3/42 guaranteed. if he has a healthy productive season there's a good chance someone would have offered him the 4/70 paul and deron got, and possibly even 5 years at some ungodly total. the lakers got a great deal.
