Mutu To Make Shock Return

Adrian Mutu, who missed his side’s clash against Inter midweek, is improving by the day, and could make a surprise return as early as this weekend at Siena.

The Romanian missed the scoreless draw with Inter Milan midweek, due to a knee problem he picked up in the Viola's final pre-match training session.

Recent reports have suggested that the attacking player may require an operation to resolve the issue that has hampered his campaign thus far; however the Viola medical staff remains optimistic ahead of the weekend’s Tuscan derby with Siena.

There are certainly growing hopes for Mutu to take part in the derby in a few days time, as club doctor Paolo Manetti has stated that, “the absence of the Romanian against Inter was nothing serious, and solely a result of a strong contusion in the knee that he picked up against Palermo.”

“The time off he has had, may be enough in order to recover for the weekend’s derby with Siena,” the doctor added.

It would be a huge boost to the club if Mutu was fit for the weekend, as they are also without the suspended Alberto Gilardino, and could do with some experience up front.
