I help coach a youth basketball team and one of the players mother told me her son was recently put on Adderall. Isn't this drug basically methamphetamine? It just seems running+young age(12)+stimulant is a bad combo.

As a professional in this area I recommend consulting with an attorney about this. If anything happens to him (or her), you're butt could end up in a sling.
Maybe have the parents sign a waiver of some sort? It's just a really weird situation for myself. Being a professional in that area, how is this drug even legal? I read this was orig. a diet drug in the 60's and they tweeked (excuse the pun) it for the use in children for ADD/ADHD years later. Unbelievable.
That's what I had in mind. But I would have an attorney who does insurance defense work draw it up and advise as to potential liability.
...tell him to share half of the pill with you and everything should be A-OK [you might even earn COY honors]!!!
I would think it would be a banned substance in youth sports, although I am against drug testing of any kind. The organization you coach for would be the liable one as long as you inform them to CYA. I would inform his Dr. that he's playing for you since his parents may not have or may have ignored his advice.
