Warriors haven't yet exercised his fourth year option...and if Nelson is as much in charge as reports contend, they may not.
They would've traded away some draft picks to rent a guy for one season. As much as I think Williams sucks, it wouldn't be a smart move to make that decision based on one month of preseason.
As bad as M.Willaim has been, between Mullin and Nelson, who is more insane? Mullin for trade for him and signing Maggette. Nelson for benching him and alienating one of your best players Harrington. Lets not forget the Ellis situation. This team is doomed. No reason why we dont win this game. Frank better not drop the ball.
Mullin and Nellie are very, very close friends, there's no problem between them. The problem is between Mullin and Team President Robert Rowell. Mullin wanted to pick up Williams' option but Rowell declined it because hes the owner's bitch and wanted to save a few million.
Yea, the struggle is between Rowell and Mullin, with Mullin essentially phased out at this point....lame duck.
Dunno if phased out is right but hes looking pathetic. Apparently he still makes the talent decisions, trade negotiations, player negotiations (with the exception of Jackson's upcoming extension), etc. but everything he does has to be approved by Robert Rowell. It probably makes sense that Rowell doesn't want Mullin back and Mullin probably doesn't want to be back so this is likely Mullin's last year in GS.
Always easy to blame the owner. Reality is that Mullin isnt getting extended, Nelson is and Mullin had a dreadful offseason.
I wouldn't say he had a bad offseason. He let Baron go,that was the right move for the money; he brought in Turiaf, great signing at a good price; and Maggette looks like he can be a go-to scorer with his ability to get to the line, something the Ws sorely lacked. Even the Williams trade wasn't bad. The mistake was not extending him. His potential was definately worth 2 second round picks. After his obvious early mistakes signing Dunleavy, Foyle, Fisher, and Murphy to big contracts, I think he's done very well. It's a shame he's being let go after finally getting the Warriors going in the right direction.
