In comparison with the first game, then yes Yi had a horrible game. However he can't shoot 64% every game. The 3 TO's were careless. However his rebounding and defense was actually decent.
Whenever a player who is expected to be the 2nd or 3rd leading scorer for a team scores 0 points on 0/4 shooting in 17 minutes, then yes, he has a horrible game.
I think that terrible home opener introduction presentation was a sign of what a crappy night it was going to be.
How about in comparison to any game? Zero points, off 0-4 shooting, with 5 rebounds and 3 TO's is a shit game for a starting PF no matter what you compare it to.
You know, for a young team where emotion can be so important, I couldn't help but think we might have played better if there was a true home court advantage. Sparse crowd, terrible introductions, not much to inspire.
I agree. The Nets crowd is horrible and the introductions were incredibly corny. Every single one of the players, from Williams to Najera, looked uncomfortable and wanted to get the hell out of there as fast as possible.
Even if you compared it to a halfway decent game and not an awesome one like he played the other night, this still would be a terrible game for him. I'm not expecting/counting on him to play as great as he did again Washington every night...but I was hoping to see better then what we saw tonight.
He had bad game no doubt. However Yi isn't going to shoot 60% every game. Besides he put up 4 shots and played 17 minutes. How many players do you know that is expected to be a main player on a team plays 17 minutes and only put up only 4 shots. It's not like Yi play 30 minutes and was 0-17.
He only played 17 minutes because he played like ass. No coach would let anyone play 30 minutes and go 0-17
They could have folded the tent, given up, and lost by 25 after that third quarter. Would you be happy or upset if the Nets win one out of every two games?
Especially on nights where he's having trouble finding (or making) shots from out high, his normal perch in this offense, I'd like to see some baseline isos for him, as he's had in a couple of other games, allowing him to just face his man up from 12 and either take a short jumper or take his man off the dribble. I agree that he's too good a shooter to only shoot 4 shots a game, even when he's not making them. Frank needs to make it a point to find him shots in his comfort zone to get him going on nights like tonight.
I am just as disappointed as anyone on here by Yi's poor performance tonight. However until they run something other than pick and pops for him, then he is going to have some poor shooting nights. On nights like tonight, I would like to see him cut to the basket more, work the offensive boards and maybe try and get to the FT line. These are areas of his game, he needs major improvement. However just remember he only play 17 minutes tonight and was bench for most of the 2nd half.
Fair enough. Then why do you expect him to give 17/6 on nightly basis then when he isn't given consistent minutes to play through his bad games. You guys expect him to produce as if he is the 3rd best player on the team. Maybe he isn't one. The treatment he got from the coaching staff certainly indicates they don't see him as being that.
Relax. It was one game. The other players have to play, also. Najera, especially, will likely play a lot in the fourth quarter all season.
Yi only played 17 minutes because he was taking BAD shots, and causing turn-overs. His Def. was not ok. It was pretty bad and he was getting muscled down low by magette and Harrington on boards and when they would drive in the lane. Was it a bad game, oh yea. He'll be better, but he needs work and consistancy. He needs to work within the system (what system that is, i have no idea because our ball movement tonight sucked the big one) Same can be said for Ryan Anderson, another guy with potential, makes shots, and then tries to do too much and takes crappy shots or turns the ball over. On a side note, the blame is not all on Yi or whoever for the crappy shooting. A large chunk can be placed on Harris and Lawrence Frank. Harris was not getting people open or distributing it to open shooters. Lawrence Frank, i really have no idea what he's doing, just seemed there was no ball movement and for the love of god dump the ball down low more when brook has that kind of size advantage. It doesnt matter if he scores or not, it keeps the Def. honest. Pick and rolls?? Where were they. No spreading of the court. We have tons of shooters yet the open 3's were few and far apart. Bobby Simmons? did he play? As much as i wanna say nice game for Boone, big missed lay ups....seriously?? Beating the dead horse here, but perimeter Def? If defending the 3 wasnt bad enough, our 1-3's for the most part were hanging our bigs out to dry, we couldn't contain anything.
My thoughts on the game...(which I'm pretty sure are going to echo a lot of peoples) -I like what i'm seeing out of the young guys. They're making mistakes, but that has to be expected. I know it's only two games, but 9 ppg and 8 rpg from Brook is very nice to see. -The fouls made the game painful to watch. Not that they weren't fouls (well, most of the time, there were a few questionable calls)...it just was a pain to watch it get stopped every play. -Boone needs to start making those layups. How frustrating is it to see them get a play off, get it to a guy right by the hoop, and then him miss the lay in? -I would have had no idea Simmons played 29 minutes tonight if it wasn't for the box score. I hardly remember him doing anything. -I like what Najera brings to the game. Not going to fill the stat sheet up, but in the brief time he was in, he hustled to get the Nets extra possessions.
Boone was overly-conscious of Biendrins, who was hammering him all night. You are right; there wasn't as much ball-movement as there should have been (but still more than we saw last year). You can't blame Frank. The players have to execute.
Ah, but I don't expect him to have 17/6 games every night, rather I expect him to not have 0 pt games on 0% shooting.
The guy took 4 shots. The 2nd one was a forced turnaround j which was an air ball. So that was a bad shot. He took a 3 which he could've made the extra pass to Harris but I wouldn't classified that one as a bad shot because he was still open. It was that Harris was even more open. The other two were wide open attempts. So that's 1 and possibly two out of four shots that were bad. The TO's were inexcusable. On defense I didn't think he did that badly against Harrington. Stop him on a couple of drives. The player who hurt the Nets the most was Biedrins. That was not Yi's man. Again I am not defending Yi for his poor game but I don't think he is the player that we all want him to be yet at this stage. ie 3rd best players on the Nets team behind VC and Harris. I think the coaching staff certainly doesn't think that because he isn't given the leeway that 3rd best player on the team would have. Take Stephen Jackson on the Warriors for example. He was horrible in the 1st half but Nellie allow him to play through it and he came out and destroyed the Nets in the 2nd half. Now I am not saying Yi deserves to be given this type of treatment but the fact that he wasn't allow to means he is not yet one of the players the Nets depend upon.
