http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/55212/20081102/nelson_harrington_is_on_the_block/ First time hearing Nellie say something about it.
Wow, those are harsh words from Nellie. Accurate, though, IMO. This team will be much better off without Al overall.
You guys should be able to get some kind of deal. I've heard that you guys have had talks with New Jersey, New York, and Portland. Anything you guys get would be better than Al.
Just curious where you heard about these talks. Newspapers, blogs, or...? I don't think that's necessarily true. Al is averaging 18 pts + 7 reb while shooting 48% from three. Against Toronto he had 26 pts + 11 rebounds while shooting 6/12 from three. He's been making the most out of his early opportunity. I personally have been eager for a Harrington trade. He has small hands, no hops and no power game whatsoever. He cannot score anything in the paint. His layups and inside moves always look like prayers, like desperate attempts to get a call and like poorly rehearsed moves where he just tries to "trick" the opponent or get the shot off quick before he gets his a$$ swatted. However, the dude's been lighting it up from outside and right now he has good trade value. Even though I'm sure Mullin is looking for a trade, and the league knows this, he shouldn't be too desperate. Because AL is a very good player in some respects and we shouldn't settle for a lukewarm deal just for the sake of making a trade. I think Mullin knows this, otherwise Al would already be gone by now. Heinrich!!
The only problem with adding Hinrich is who becomes the odd man out of the starting rotation when Ellis returns? SJax & Biedrins need to start, and Maggette is going to pout if he's demoted to coming off the bench. Do you have Hinrich come off the bench?
Just news articles that have been posted and discussed around the site that's all, nothing definitive for sure, but discussion worthy. And I may have exaggerated a tad with the anything is better statement, cause Eddy Curry would be worse by far.
Good point, but it's a dilemma I'd gladly accept. I mean, the alternative is to not have a clear PG and instead fake it until Monta comes back, and then force him at the PG while still starting Harrington. If I have to go Heinrich/Monta/Jax/Wright/Beans with Mags as 6th man, so be it. I'd rather do that than go Monta/Mags/Jax/Harrington/Beans. Plus, at times, we could start Heinrich/Monta/Mags/Jax/Beans and go small. The most important thing here is that we really need a legit ball handler to run the break and to smooth this whole awkward offense out. Even when Monta comes back, I'm not sure he's the best man for that job. He'll be a welcome addition, of course, but will he be a floor-general PG who gets everyone involved? Personally I'd rather have a PG in place so he can do what he did last year and torch the competition at the SG spot...
Right on! Al is a scorer, but he doesn't do the things we need like rebound, play defense, and finish. Plus, he's not very polished for a veteran player. One might say he's just not very natural when it comes to overall basketball sense. Evidence of this is when a play deteriorates, our announcer Jim Barnett is the first to point out what the player should have done. Most of the time this is in regard to fundamentals in passing or preventing an inside shot from getting blocked. These are things that Barnett is saying that Harrington could work on to be better at making plays and finishing inside.
Besides the work ethic problems, I think we should limit the number of players on our team with heart conditions.
I'd go with: PG: Monta (a Tony Parker combo guard) SG: Mags (basically a Paul Pierce type small forward playing guard) SF: Sjax (basically a Mike Miller/Joe Johson type shooting guard playing small forward) PF: Turiaf (Etan Thomas / Kendrick Perkins enforcer type dude) C: Biedrins (a Jeff Foster / Jermaine O'neal type guy) 2nd unit pg: Captain Kirk (Bobby Jackson / Sam Cassell / Chauncey Billups type combo guard) sg: Belinelli sf: Azu (mini Jrich, less consistency, less outside shooting, more defense/ballhandling) pf: Wright c: Hendrix If we got Hinrich I'd be willing to ditch Ellis for a PF/C combo, but no teams are willing to trade a guard for a big man. Like if Hawes or Aldridge was on the block, I'd do that in a heartbeat as I believe those two are the big men of the future for their respective franchises. How badass would this lineup be (depending on who we'd get): pg: Hinrich sg: Mags sf: Sjax pf: Aldridge or Biedrins c: Hawes or Biedrins I think Mags is as close as we can get to a player with superstar moves without being a superstar. Hinrich could be our type of Chauncey Billups who can defend, shoot, pass, lead (With Ellis we'd have yet to find out if he can lead, shoot a 3, or pass it). Sjax would be our shooter and secondary initiator. Aldrige or Hawes would be the primary scorers inside and out and would bring shotblocking, rebounding to the table next to Biedrins. They could develop into great inside scorers with a little maturity. I figure defensively that would help our weakside help and rebounding problem when Harrington plays power forward. The bonus is either Aldridge or Hawes can shoot from the perimeter and are good passers. Perfect for Biedrins, who is also a power forward/center of the future for our franchise.
