Would we be interested in him? A Stro and Hassell for Harrington works, according to ESPN trade machine. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not, it's just the first thing that came to mind since Stro, Sean, and Hassel are being shopped around pretty much on the block anyway. Do we want him? He's a one year contract that, and wouldn't have to worry about paying Trenton an extra year. Would there be something else that justifies this trade?
Ha! Add in SWAT and give them back their first round pick, and maybe Mullin would be interested. No way he'd do a Hassell/Stro for Al deal
wow, I may have been on the money with this one. Here's a new Dave D article courtesy of NetsDaily: http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2008/11/post_1.html Now I really wonder if Mullin was there last night on business. (He was sitting right in front of me for the first quarter, moved around a bit, and then seemed to have left) .
if harrington comes here he adds to the big man problem. i mean he is basically a better version of yi and anderson. we need kirelinko or nocioni! we need a starting 3! where is jefferson!
I wouldn't mind add Al Harrington, he can play both sf/pf. I was actually suprised that Thorn didn't package Swift along with Marcus to the Warriors during the summer. Plus packaging Swift, Hassel and Williams gives us more room to add a 3rd string pg e.g Jared Jordan
Vecsey says the Nets and Warriors talked and the Nets rejected the Warrior offer. It probably was either: send us a young player or a draft pick or two and an expiring deal...or send us Devin Harris. Boone and Swift works...but leaves Nets with Lopez and Williams upfront. Yi and Hassell (barely) works...but sacrifices the Nets hopes for Yi. All other scenarios don't make much sense.
Harrington has exactly the same position as AK or Nocioni... he would be a perfect starting SF for us. yes he is a better version of yi and anderson, but the main difference is that he is smaller, quicker and can dribble the ball... making him a perfect SF in the NBA. some people here even suggested putting Yi or Anderson at SF for us... well, putting Harrington there is far easier.. And if we trade Stro and Sean for him, than he doesn't add to oor big man problem at all, but he solves it actually. Yes we have to add a first round pick, but hopefully they will accept their own pick back. he also has a player option for 2010, which i'd love him to pick up. that way we can be absolutely competitive all the way until the big FA offseason. Harris, VC, Harrington, Yi, Lopez as a starting 5, and Dooling, CDR, Hayes, Najera, Anderson, Boone as key reserves would de a very nice team for the next two seasons. Than in 2010, we can switch Harrington for LeBron or Melo By then, hopefully at least one of Yi and Brook become a star..
I wouldn't want to bring Harrington in with Simmons still on the roster. I would want Frank to HAVE to play him primarily as a SF. He would be an upgrade over Simmons, not as good over his career as a 3-point shooter but on par the last few seasons and more versatile offensively. But I don't favor any scenario where he gets minutes at the expense of Ryan or Yi. His ability to play both forward spots would come in handy as injury/foul trouble insurance, but I would hate to see him at the 4 for any other reason and hinder the development of our young 4s. In view of what Nellie said about him ("he thinks he's a superstar, I think he's a very good player"), I'm not sure I want him on this team in any event.
Al's a nice match-up problem at the 4, i've never really liked him as a 3 though. Seeing as that's what he'd predominantly play for us, i'd prefer we didn't go after him unless we could unload a bad contract in the process.
I'll tell you what I would deal Simmons & Sean if and only if Golden State sends either Anthony Randolph or Brandon Wright w/ Al Harrington.
Not wanting harrington and having simmons as your starting small forward is lunancy. i know he's the jack of all trades and master of none. but he can score 15 pt's a night . rebound the ball .dribble penetrate and is a good passer. coming home might do him well. the 2 games we played is a example of what we are going to see all season. first game yi scores 17 and contributes. hayes comes off the bench to score in double figures. we win. second game yi scores 0 and no contribution from simmons or hayes. we lose. Harrington will give you 15 every night leaving yi as the only spot we have to worry about points from. if we have a vacuum at both forward spots we are facked. i would only trade harrington for some package of stro, hassell, williams, simmons or the #1 pick G.S. traded marcus williams for basically garbage with only sean being the bright spot in the trade.
