Who's going to guard Amare? I hope its not YI. We might have to start Brook and Boone tommrow

There is no problem. We lose.

It will be interesting to see how they respond, though. I expect that Najera will be unleashed.

I agree. It'll be interesting to see how we lose though, and how the team responds the following game.

Even though we are bound to lose plenty of games this year, I'm more excited by the young guys than last year.

I think it's more likely than not that we lose, and if we were talking about the Phoenix of 2-4 years ago, I'd be almost certain we'd lose. But the Phoenix of now is not an invincible behemoth. And I expect the Nets will have a bounce-back energy and defensive determination that MAY be enough to score an upset.

I do expect Najera to see time and have an impact.

    Please!!!! We Lose!!!

I still want to see Lopez match up with Shaq. I would love to see a similiar sequence like when Bynum first went up against shaq. He dunked on him and then ran up court and bumped Shaq.

Yi can guard amare no problem. Problem is who is going to guard diaw when he comes into the game. I hope Frank starts Lopez so he can matchup against Shaq. No way in hell do i like the matchup of Shaq vs Boone.

Also what about when Yi has to cover for the Center when they do a nash shaq pick and roll? Man that will be a nice mismatch lol. I hope we at least beat the spread.

Amare is a tough cover for anybody in the NBA including Tim Duncan. He has a reliable 18 ft jumper and is so athletic around the basket. With Nash setting him up, he is virtually impossible to stop. So you could put Yi, Boone or Najera on him, the chances are he is going to get his points. The Nets front court may also foul a lot in trying to defend Shaq and Amare.

:O This is Amare Stoudemire we're talking about right? Or is there another Amare on the Suns that I don't know of...

Phoenix may not be the Western power they used to be but Shaq and Amare in the paint will be enough to beat the Nets. Shaq has kicked off the season very well and nobody on our team (Lopez included) can guard either one of them. Not to mention guys like Nash, Barbosa, etc. who are great as well.

This will be better than the double overtime game.

Where the Nets could exploit Amare is on the defensive end. Besides blocking a few shots, Amare doesn't really show a lot of interest in playing defense. Well at least in previous seasons anyway. I haven't seen the Suns played under Terry Porter.

Yi should play fine against Amare because he doesn't have a perimeter game. Yi has problems with the Jamison and Harrington type players that operate away from the basket. Jamison was killing Yi from the perimeter until he decided to take his game into the low post.

Amare won't be popping threes but he can hit the midrange jumper.

Yi is not a good defender, whether it be against perimeter bigs or post bigs. Amare is one of the best scorers in the league, and he can score in the post and hit the mid-range jumper. I don't see how that would work out.

I dunno. We'll see, as Yi is a learning experience for everyone watching him and can look very competent in certain respects at certain times and pretty incompetent at others. His length and quickness mean that he will have a chance against guys like Amare, and may even have some good moments on the defensive end. But I don't think he is defensively savvy enough to battle a guy like Stoudemire for extended minutes, and he is brutally over-matched in strength.

His best hope will likely be to come out aggressively offensively, hit a very high percentage of shots, and possibly draw a couple of quick fouls that may bench or otherwise throw Stoudemire off a rhythm.

Yep agreed. Yi's best chance against Amare is to attack him at the offensive end. Amare isn't a noted defensive player. The other way to minimize Amare's dominance is to cut off his supply. That means Harris has got to do a good job at containing Nash off the dribble.

ok, I think we will lose, and I know it is only the 3rd game, but if we play well and don't get blown out by these guys I think Nets will have a bright future to look forward too
