No chance the Mavs deal Kidd for an expiring contract, a journeyman and a 1st rounder. They gave up Devin Harris to acquire Kidd and since Kidd is in the final year of his deal getting an expiring contract doesn't help.
it helps in that it doesn't cause the mavs to take on much more money longterm. you also missed dallas getting a "talented project". not sure who that would be in this case, but i'd guess something along the lines or bayless or batum. i just can't see any way the blazers would bite on something like this though. kidd's not what he used to be, he would be a bad fit alongside brandon roy in the backcourt, and the blazers aren't going to make a deal that doesn't help them longterm and kidd definitely doesn't help them longterm(or short term really).
I left out talented project, because I don't know who that means. I'd rather keep Bayless and Batum if I'm Portland, because the team isn't ready to challenge for a title shot, and Kidd wouldn't change that. Why give away those building blocks to rent Kidd for a season? Portland needs to make it into the post-season and grow from there. If Dallas wants to begin rebuilding then the player they should deal is Nowitzki because he'd bring the most back in trade.
he'd get the most back because he's by far their best player. he'd also be the hardest one for them to replace. unless a great deal comes along, they shouldn't even consider trading dirk at this point.
