I'm a Cowboys fan, definitely. However, I've been calling for this piece of trash to be benched all season. He's done absolutely nothing all year (note his stats and the teams W/L) and should have been benched a few weeks ago. Hell, he shouldn't have been resigned and I still think the Browns were stupid to bring him back, especially when they have a highly touted young QB making a lot of money on the bench. And really, what's the worse that could happen? They lose? Not like they're not doing that already. Brady Quinn, in my book, is the future QB of this team and should have been starting from day one. Derek Anderson, as he's proven this year, was an absolute fluke.
Derek Anderson beat the Giants, and turn a potential top 10 pick going to the Cowboys into a mid-1st....he's done his job, now they can cut him in offseason if Quinn doesn't do any worse. The question here is, what if Quinn doesn't live up to his hype and puts up similar or worse production? Do they go back to Anderson?
Well, I think they're going to be coming in to this realizing that Quinn could be a work in progress. He's basically a rookie (he's thrown 8 career passes), so they can't justifiably expect him to explode on to the scene. With Anderson, they expected him to play well and continue to progress after having a very good season last year. Instead, he regressed and has been one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL this year. On a sidenote, Trent Dilfer is a dumbass. He thinks the Browns are making a mistake with this move. He said something to the extent that Derek Anderson isn't the issue, blah blah blah. Does he not realize that this offense begins and ends with the play of their QB? They pass a lot and use Jamal Lewis as a secondary offensive option (though a solid one at that). If the QB is playing poorly, the offense isn't going to produce, and that was proven this year. Derek Anderson didn't do jack all year, and neither did the offense.
When you look at the Browns passing offense last year, their success was built on three very good players: Derek Anderson, Braylon Edwards, and Kellen Winslow. Anderson's regression has already been well documented. His accuracy has been terrible and he's simply not making plays this year. The more under-the-radar story might be Braylon Edwards' season. He's regressed almost as much, dropping balls regularly and taking himself out of so many plays. On Sunday against the Ravens, he dropped a sure TD catch for no apparent reason. Kellen Winslow of course, been injured for most of the season. And just like that you have a team that everyone expected to take that next step completely collapsing.
And take a look what happened...Brady Quinn had the best game for a Browns QB all season, even though the outcome wasn't what he wanted, at least he had a shot at the win.
