Seems like quite a few of you guys have Plasmas and thought you could help....I was looking into getting one and was found these two seem to be the best at 720p...can anyone recommend or better yet does anyone have one of these? I have a viera 58" and the picture is superb. This model doesn't do 1080p, but you may not need it with the screen size being 42"

Yeah the 42" Panasonic I'm looking at is supposed to be as good if not better than a lot of 1080p's. Also, I hear that these types of TV's cut off television channels on the top and bottom...is it just the HD channels that don't do this?
Alright I'm about to buy an LCD, so I'll ask, what is Black Friday? Also, my 30 minute research for a flat screen TV in the bonus room that will be used primarily for gaming and internet (when I'm using it, not often) tells me to go 1080 LCD. I figure I'll put a 46 or 52 LCD on the wall, hooked up to the wii and ps3 and computer. No surround sound, so no reciever or additonal speakers. Sound about right for what I'm going to use it for? Also, if I mount it on the wall, will that cause problems with attaching gaming units. I know most models have one group of side jacks, but I was thinking of maybe just placing the TV on a stand so I have easy access to the back. Anyone else have a nice set up they have researched and want to share?
I have a samsung in the bedroom and a fujitsu in the living room. Like the fujitsu more than the samsung (in fact love my fujitsu). . . but no complaints about the samsung.
So, the smaller the picture, the less you have to worry about 720p vs. 1080p? When I watch TV, I watch mostly sports, which I think requires a higher refresh rate. However, I don't even know which is better, LCD or plasma. Does anyone have a decent site to learn about how to buy a flat screen?
I suggest you don't limit yourself with a 720P set and spend the extra $300 to get the 1080P version. I've got the 50" Panny Plasma TH-50PZ85U. You can get this set for about $1400 now, and about 6 months ago I got it for $1800. If you get the 46" or even 42" you could get it for around $1000.
If your viewing distance will be say at least 8-10 ft go with the 720 over 1080. Its been determined at that distance the human eye can't tell the distance between the 2 resolutions.Also in plasma Panasonic I believe is #1 in affordable sets. Pioneer is several notches and price levels above. I like Samsung for LCD but have read quite a few unhappy user reviews re their plasmas. I bought my Panasonic 50 inch TH 50PX80U from Sears during last Junes Fathers Day sale for 3-4 hundred off list. I researched for a couple months before buying and I'm still happy with it. Viewing distance and 720p vs. 1080 is a function of screen size. In the old days, the bigger the screen the better was the rule. With the advent of HD, you should choose the screen size based upon your room size. Too big a TV in a small room will not yield the best picture/experience! It's a myth that 720p is ever better than 1080p though. At any reasonable distance from my 58" 1080p screen, I can absolutely discern that the picture quality is better as compared to my 37" 720p set, and you don't always just sit in front of the TV at the one distance anyhow. Let's take the distance argument to its extremes. If your face is right next to the TV, you see all kinds of things that make the picture bad - for LCD you see the actual pixels, for plasma you see a grid. This is why sitting too close to a big screen isn't good! If you stand so far away from the screen that you can barely make out the picture, the resolution won't matter - but you aren't really going to enjoy the experience either. I see no reason to choose LCD over plasma at this time. The LCD screens do not make as good a picture as plasma, the backlight degrades over time making the picture get worse and worse the more you watch it, and the response time for LCD pixel changes is slow enough to make watching sports (or other rapidly changing pictures) less enjoyable. Plasma (last time I looked) even has a longer expected lifetime at 60,000 hours vs. 50,000 for LCD.
