Nets at #14? Hater. Question: Is this based on stats, results, or some combination? If (for example) the Nets lose to Phoenix by just one point, should we expect their rating to go up, or go down?
It's based on stats and results relative to the rest of the league. Team's can go up and down in both wins and losses depending on how they actually perform in the games. As the season goes on, and there are a lot of games in the pool, there will be less movement on a day to day basis, and team's will need to have a series of good games to move up and down.
Interesting note. The top 8 teams in the East: 79.00741529 The top 8 teams in the West: 79.05879406 Eastern playoffs will be tougher, because there are more good teams, but the playoff teams in each conference have relative parity in terms of strength of conference, because the West is more top heavy.
It's all statistics. The stats say the Hawks are better than the Celts, and they beat the Hornets tonight. At least early on, the Hawks look like the real deal in terms of being a good team. Although personally, I expect this to fall apart.
