Pogatetz Vows To Clean Up His Act

As Middlesbrough look to rebound from their demolition at the hands of Chelsea last Saturday, captain Emanuel Pogatetz has vowed to improve his disciplinary record.

Middlesbrough's Austria international Emmanuel Pogatetz missed his team's last three games - including the Chelsea horror show - because of a suspension he was serving as punishment for the red card he was shown during a 3-1 Carling Cup defeat at Manchester United last month.

The team missed him, and he missed being involved. So now that he is eligible to return, with Boro's game at Blackburn looming on Saturday, Pogatetz is determined to help get the show back on the road.

He told Teesside newspaper the Evening Gazette: "It is hard when you have to miss games because you are injured but it is harder when you have been suspended because of a red card.

"I want to help the team as much as possible and if I am to do that I have to be on the field.

"I have to try to avoid it happening again in the future because I want to play every week."

His domestic ban did not affect his eligibility for international games, meaning Pogatetz was able to play two World Cup qualifiers for Austria in the middle of his suspension. That means he should not be ring rusty, and indeed he is fired up ahead of the Ewood Park trip, keen to help the team respond positively to that 5-0 set-back last week.

He stressed: "The pride of the players has been hurt. But we have a lot of characters in the dressing room and we want to win our pride back.

"That's why we have to make sure that we get something out of the game at Blackburn. There has to be a reaction and I think there will be."
