Doug Smith the Star I'm going to agree with Smith on this one and say it's at least worth a call. He makes a good point about Hump and how he seems like he is going to be useless this year.
It's definitely worth a call, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I think he's comfortable in Detroit and the two parties have an unspoken agreement that he'll be returning. Also, I don't get why Humphries is all of a sudden a non-factor on this team. He's not good enough to prevent us from calling McDyess, but there's no way he shouldn't be getting minutes here.
Living in Toronto, I was never a big Raptor guy, but this season I've made it a mission to try to get a little more involved and watch a few more games. I've noticed that Hump has improved a lot since last season, but somehow seems like he's not in favour of Sam Mitchell. I say give him some PT, and you will be surprised at what he can do. Having McDyess is redundant as he plays like Bosh and Jermaine. Besides, having a rotation of Bosh, JO, McDyess and former first overall pick Il Mago, how are you going to distribute the minutes so that everyone gets ample time to play their game?
We don't need JO to play a lot of time. The less time he plays the better it is because we don't want him to get injured. Same thing with Dyess. Bosh/JO/Dyess and Barni would be excellent. I really don't see it happening though.
Well, ideally we'd have a rotation of 4 big men. JO and Bosh, and then one to sub in for each. Bargnani's obviously one of those subs and he's played up to that role. I figured Hump would be that other one, but it hasn't worked out so far. We've seen the problems of only having 3 active big men, because it forces you to stretch your roster thin (eg: the Milwaukee game). I think you could definitely make space for a rebounding and defensive specialist like McDyess, especially since JO's still rounding back into form.
