Is it even financially possible to acquire him? I'd imagine that we'd have to do some major salary shedding in order to make those numbers work.

The only ways we get Lebron is either by trade or if he accepts the MLE.

We don't have the cap space to sign him in 2010.

Maybe there won't be a salary cap in 2010 to worry about.

Im tellin you guys...Kobe for Lebron...Cavs are gonna lose Lebron one way or another, might as well get Kobe for him.

It will be the one chance for Kobe to go to a team without gutting it due to a lopsided trade...he will be insulted enough to say yes

This is just an idea I was thinking about.

Could we sign LeBron to a one year deal for the MLE--and then re-sign him the next off-season to a max contract?

Isn't Kobe going to get another trade clause? No way he lets it happen if that is true.

Yes he has a no trade clause, and will probably get another if he opts out...it would be soooooo awesome if he doesnt

My theory revolves around Kobe's ego...his "Ill show them" attitude

Kobe cares much more about rings at this point, as most older players would. He doesn't have to deal with Shaq here anymore, it is the perfect environment for him and moving would be so inconvenient.

I doubt LeBron would waste even a single year of his prime at that value. He probably feels that he doesn't have to take such drastic measures to win titles.

I see the Mavericks as a far more likely choice than the Lakers, unless they do a straight up Kobe/Lebron trade (Lakers might have to include someone else in the deal to get James though).

Ok guys... here is the only POSSIBLE way we can acquire LeBron.

1st - We win back to back Championships in 2008 - 09 and 09 - 10  (It will help, believe me)
2nd - Resign Kobe to 15M a year (Down from 22, thats 7M for CAP space)
    3rd - Resign Odom to his 12 - 14M contract OR Resign Odom to 6 - 7M a year (that's another 7M for the CAP)
4th - Cleveland S&T LeBron for Odom + Walton or Vlad + Cap Space + Picks OR we let Walton, Vlad and co. walk to be able to sign LeBron @ 22M LOL

Something like that will happen before LeBron comes over here.

The Lakers would NEVER consider trading Kobe for LeBron, plus Kobe won't allow it. :ghoti:

No like...if Mitch and LeBron struck an accord to sign him to the MLE for one year only (he'd make everything back just by being L.A. and marketing) and then max him next off-season. Is that possible in any case with any player, or are their rules against it?

I dunno, sounds interesting though as it would put LeBron in a better position to win the championship, more so than anywhere else at least. Are there tampering (or whatever those backroom deals are called) rules (this could be considered that) here in the NBA?

Bird Rights requires minimum 3 years if acqured via FA, so yes this would be against the rules
