Agreed, Kidd doesn't have to be a crazy scorer. Did he get torched on the defensive side or something?

He is a nice complimentary player that defense doesn't have to pay much attention to. He gets a lot of assists simply because some of the other players on the team are really good catch-and-shoot guys.
Is he worth $20 million? What do you think?

He's been hitting his shots, so far. Last game he had 22 points. 6 three-pointers.
Nope, not anymore.
All Devin has on his side is age and scoring, and that still hasn't made him a better player.
Definitely helped the Nets out. They were heading no where with him, and by dumping him on Dallas, Nets got younger.

yes, the only game this season he has scored more than nine points or made more than four shots. I believe that it was Billups' first game as a Nugget, so he gets a pass for that one.
he is also 3-4 from the line . . . all season!

look at how his shot attempts and free throw attempts have declined. Again, he is just a complimentary player. Dallas already has at least one more in their starting lineup: dampier. That's one too many.

His attempts have declined because there are better scorers in Dallas than their are in NJ.
And for the record, I'm not satisfied with the way Carlisle is utilizing Kidd. Still quite similar to that of Avery.

Jason Kidd is playing at the level of a Mark Jackson at the age of 35. They are both celebral, complimentary players that are defensive liabilities and suspect shooters. His decline since leaving the Nets has been sudden and drastic however. There is no way he gets resigned by the Mavs. And the Mavs are looking HORRENDOUS so far.

It's quite early...but the Mavs just lost to a team that had been winless, the now 1-6 Clippers.
Cuban hasn't made a good move (outside of the signing of Rick Carlisle...maybe) since February.
--He traded for Kidd, who couldn't get him out of the first round and who cost him Harris, Diop, Hassell, Ager (okay, just Harris); two first round picks, one unprotected; $3 million in cash and by his own estimate a grand total of $11 million, including the cash consideration, luxury taxes, KVH's salary, etc., etc. He also permitted Thorn to construct the trade so the Nets got a $3.3 million trade exception which magically turned into Keyon Dooling.
--After saying he hoped to acquire a first round pick on draft night, he couldn't find anyone willing to sell him a first round pick, then used his second round pick on Shan Foster who decided to play in Europe instead.
--He signed Diop to $31 million over five years, using the entire MLE to do so, limiting his ability to sign anyone to a contract of more than the vets minimum. It was the worst free agent signing of the off-season, according to John Hollinger, who appears to be right.
--He resigned Devean George to a new, 2-year, $4 million contract, reversing course after criticizing George for thwarting the first (and much cheaper) Kidd deal.
--He signed Antoine Wright to a new 2-year, $4 million contract, again reversing course, this time two days after team officials had decided not to offer him anything. Wright is a bust...again.
--He signed Gerald Greene, which MIGHT turn out okay, but if it does, it will surprise coaches in Boston, Minnesota and Houston, all of whom dumped him unceremoniously.
--He traded for Shawne Williams and his bad rep, giving up second round picks in 2009 and 2010 (or 2011 at the Pacers choice), potentially leaving him with NO picks in 2010 since the Nets have his first rounder. He also agreed to pay the Pacers $1.8 million in cash. Williams has done nothing. (the Mavs made their moves for Wright, Greene and Williams to compensate for the loss of the 2008 and 2010 first round picks sent to NJ as well as their failure to acquire a substitute first round pick.)
--He was forced to listen to Josh Howard destroy his own value by 1) admitting to Michael Irvin of all people that he smokes weed in the off season and 2) mocking the Star-Spangled Banner--and the President-Elect--on a YouTube video. (That might not be much of an issue if he played in New York, but we are talking Texas here).
We can only hope his record continues through the 2010 season after which the Nets will be able to use the Mavs pick on Draft Night.
