http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/55312/20081108/bobcats_covet_curry/ If the Knicks could pull this off, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Just ship out Curry and bring on Wallace. Maybe New York would try to get May, to get a big man, who also happens to be in Brown's doghouse. The bolded part is a legit concern.
I can't imagine any reason, other than pure desperation, that the Bobcats, or any other team, would trade for Curry.
So they don't have to play Gerald Wallace at PF and Okafor at C - both out of position. If they dealt Wallace for Curry, their front court would be Morrison/Okafor/Curry. It's a big gamble that Curry shapes up, he's still a young guy.
No pun intended with the "big gamble" part in regards to Curry? Seriously though, while it would probably help the 'Cats to an extent, I don't know why they'd do it. Curry has a bad attitude, he's fat, he doesn't play defense, he's a horrid rebounder....I could go on and on. Regardless of age...aside from his contract year, has he ever shown a lot of desire? I don't think so. His contract year was the only year he ever came in to camp in shape. Once he got that big deal from the Knicks, he went back to his old ways and hasn't escaped from them yet.
The Bulls were a top defensive team playing Curry a lot of minutes when they had guys like Chandler and Antonio Davis to play along side him. Maybe the thinking is that Okafur is that kind of player too?
The only reason the Bulls were a top defensive team was because of those other guys. They had the ability to make up for the mistakes Curry made. I'd venture to say the Bulls would have been a better defensive team if they didn't have Curry. The only reason the Bobcats would do this is to be able to slide Emeka to his more natural position and pray that that prevents him from sustaining another injury. That's the only reason to do this trade. Curry is hot garbage now, and is only really good for about 14/5 per night...which for an NBA big with his size, is completely underachieving and not at all worth his contract.
If Curry can come in and play with some effort and score the ball like everyone knows he can, I think it makes the Bobcats a much better team. I still dont think that Felton, Richardson and Wallace fit well together and Wallace seems like the most likely to go, followed by Richardson. Curry allows Okafor to move to C and forces Charlotte into a more traditional half court set under Larry Brown, rather than playing Wallace at PF like Denny said. Even with all that, its still Eddy Curry and you never know what you are going to get out of the guy. However, it clearly isnt working in Charlotte right now and that roster just doesnt mesh with Larry Brown's style either.
i can't imagine why the bobcats would want curry but you'd have to think d'antoni would love getting his hands on gerald wallace.
I'd imagine so. Gerald Wallace fits in to that teams system very well. He's a great athlete taht can run the court and finish at the rim, and that'd work great with D'Antoni's system. More importantly, you'd have to believe that Donny Walsh and co. would love to find some dumb schmuck to take Eddy Curry and his god-awful contract off their hands.
