I love the potential of Sean, but we have so many bigs with potential its hard to develope them all. I'd be content going with Yi, Lopez, Anderson, and Boone as our bigs of the future. Do we do a straight up Sean for Javaris trade? Maybe we try to get a future 2nd rounder too. I'd like to see us developing another wing in addition to just CDR and all the bigs. Plus, if we need it he can be that 3rd PG we are missing now. I know you shouldn't trade big for small, but we really are stacked with young bigs and need to do something.
I know alot of posters are high on Critterton but give me the big with potential over a guard any day of the week. We actually have the luxury of bringing Sean around slowly with the depth we have and, in my opinion, Javaris isn't that special that it would be worth bailing on Sean this early. It takes shot blockers time to develop and I have no problem bringing him along like Portland did with JO if necessary.
My fear is that he's another player with all the physical tools but will never have the 'competitive heart' that is needed to be successful at professional sports. Also known as happygoluckyitis... which is a great attribute in a friend and bad in a pro athlete. And, if true, he may actually have some value now rather than later. I don't see how he ever develops when you have all these other guys you need to get on the court.
-itis is a term used for inflammation, so this is in the wrong context... I believe -osis would be more appropriate
Damn!!! You think S. Williams' competitive nature is THAT low!!!!!! Atleast he likes to play Defense.
Yup... I think he's a guy with off the chart athleticism that enjoys playing and defense (actually just shot blocking) is the one area that comes easy for him. On a competitive scale of 1 to 10 (with Garnett being a 10) I think Carter is around a 6 or 7. Sean I see as about a 2 or 3. Eddy Curry is a 1. When I first wrote this I wasn't even thinking about him giving tonite's starting spot to Lopez, but that is one more sign of what I see with him. I can see doing that in a regular season game "for the good of the team" as Frank put it, but in preseason? You take every opportunity you can... if you're a competitor.
Boone's about a 5. Swift is about a 3. Krsitc a 5. Kobe and Lebron are 10s. Allen and Melo are about a 7. Wade is a 9 or 10. That was one of the things that made Kenyon so valuable to those Nets teams. It wasn't just about his points, rebounds or defense. His intensity coupled with Kidd helped propel all the guys to play better than themselves and get to the Finals. A loack of competitiveness is not something that makes you say a guy is lazy or anything like that. It's just who a guy is. Some guys have off the charts skills and love the game and winning. Others have the skills and play it because they can make a living at it and it's fun.
I wasnt a big fan of Martin's game, but when it came to his competitive nature, he was off the charts. Kidd also has or had that nature. As far as VC is concerned, I also agree with you it is just they way he is, but that isnt what I want in a Star player. I want what Martin, Kidd, Kobe, MJ, R. Miller, KG, and Lebron have. That personality makes people around you better. Lebron had a crappy team that went to the finals. Kobe was carrying his team before and after they got Gasol. Wade before Shaq propelled the Heat to the playoffs. VC yeah he is a good player but that is it. Based on your scale, Boone should be lower, 3 or 4. I would give Swift a 1, because no way Swift is equal or over S.Willians competitive nature.
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of guys like that. Probably less than 30 in the league. Quite a few teams don't have that kind of guy, but that is what separates the elite teams. Sometimes if you get a lot of 7 or 8s they can feed off each other and collectively compete harder. Detroit had that.
i wouldn't mind sean being as happy go lucky as he wants if he will turn into a vince carter...dump najera!
I like SWill but we can use a 3rd PG and Crittenton has some potential to be good too so why not..we have plenty of bigs and SWill is struggling bad rite and his game is similar to Swift's so we wouldnt be missing much..just a few blocks a game lol
SWill needs more time to develop, right now he looks like he needs to calm down and focus, he seems like he wants to do real well right now but looks like he's got a lot of nervous energy. when he settles down and finds his role on this squad he'll be very useful.
Since Harris is out through Friday can we just pull the trigger on this already? Won't help us right now, but if him or Dooling go down again we can use him. Plus with CDR out he can help at SG too.
Harris isn't playing until Friday. where did you hear that? If that's true CRAP! For 2 reasons, 1. Nets need him and 2. For fantasy basketball.
I'd rather try and use Sean in a package with Simmons to get a guy like Mike Miller. Then try and use the pick from the Marcus trade to get a 3rd string PG.
