Al sounds perfect for them. I'd give them AL and Bellinelli for Jamario Moon, Jason Kapono, Joey Graham (expiring) and a first round pick. "And it follows that the Raptors have talked with both the Golden State Warriors and the Bobcats about trades, according to two league sources, with an eye toward correcting that kind of imbalance. The Warriors are looking to move Al Harrington, and the Bobcats are looking to trade Wallace. Each is a veteran small forward who would be an upgrade on the inconsistent Moon. Harrington has the more attractive contract - his deal will expire in 2010. The slashing, ball-hawking Wallace might have the more attractive game, though the five years and nearly $50-million (U.S.) he has left on his contract comes with more risk, particularly given Wallace's concussion history. The real sticking point is that the player who clubs ask about is inevitably Bargnani, whom Colangelo remains bullish on and who is showing signs of putting last season's sophomore pratfall behind him. But one might guess that Colangelo's belief in the former No. 1 draft pick's long-term potential doesn't match Mitchell's win-now urgency." http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20081110.RAPANALYSIS10/TPStory/Sports
Well, Toronto saw first-hand what Al can do when they played GS on Halloween (10/31). AL went trick-or-treating for 26pts/11reb while shooting 6/12 from three. Still, he merely got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, as GS lost the game.
Why is everyone so intent on packaging Marco with Al? He's worth holding onto. We haven't seen what he can do yet.
We've seen that he's got a nice J and some passing ability while trying to play some D. He's a first round asset that should not be given away.
Agree, he just started to crack the rotation and hes playing a solid, well rounded game for the first time in his career. I don't want to dump him just yet. His D the last few games has been very solid, his shot is looking good, and we already know hes a capable passer which is valuable to this team. Hes far from untouchable but I wouldn't use him as a throw-in. The Raps really don't have anything I want though. Kapono is nice but hes still got 3 years at 5-6 mil/year left and his defense is horrible. Moon is ok but redundant since we already have Wright and Randolph. There's not much else on that roster they could give that I would want (Antohny Parker is would be nice but I doubt they give him up).
Yeah, I thought of Parker (because that dude can shoot) -- he was tough against us in that game this year. But he's a similar position to JAx/Mags/Az and it would seem a bit crowded there. I think we need either a starting PG for AL, or an expiring contract, or by some miracle a prospect/pick + expiring contract. A lot of teams think Al is a very good starting player. He's been able to score a ton here (because most starters who play under Nellie scores more than they would anywhere else). I don't think Jax would be a 20 pt scorer anywhere else. I don't think Al would be a 20pt scorer anywhere else. But here, with the green light, they put up big numbers (which don't equate to wins, lol). Al is very, very trade-able right now.
I can see no one liked my trade deal and weren't breaking down doors for Bargnani either. I thought Moon would be the PF/SF and Nellie could use him like MP last season. It is tough to make a deal with the Raps because they don't have pieces after their big three (Bosh, Calderon, O'Neal) worth trading for. You can add Anthony Parker to the deal and it makes it a better deal and works trade wise, but then we're taking on a lot of future salary. Al for Moon, Parker and Joey Graham (expiring) works, but both Moon and Parker will be unrestricted FAs. With Mullin calling the shots, we knew he still wanted to win now. Losing Baron changed that and picking up Maggette didn't make much sense after Monta went down and Marcus Williams did not work out.
The thing is, Toronto's biggest problem right now is perimeter defense. The Gerald Wallace rumours make sense because it'd directly address our inability to guard opposing swingmen. The Harrington one's really don't. Sure he brings better scoring ability than Jamario Moon, but we still wouldn't be getting the defense and rebounding from that spot that we're looking for. I'm hoping he doesn't consider giving up Bargnani for either.
Maybe we can pull a 3 way deal, and end up with a PG like Felton? haha just hoping... Also I wouldn't mind trading Marco if it gave the team a player that will contribute on the court. For some reason or another, Marco is just on the bench all the time. Even after he scored like 6 points in 7 minutes against the Kings, he didn't come back in the game until midway through the 4th I believe. But if we could trade Marco for a starter, then I'd look to do that, and have no problem with that, since there is no light of Marco being a starter on this team anytime soon for two reasons - 1 he hasn't played well enough to shine and prove to be a starter, and 2 there are players like Jackson, Maggette, Ellis, and Azubuike in front of him in that line. Even Demarcus Nelson has been playing more SG than Marco it seems. But thinking of the Raptor's GM, I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted Marco. Weren't they high on him during the draft?
I think Bargnani and Bellinelli are like Jordan and Pippen in terms of advertising potential in Europe. They still need to prove it on the court, and they have shown flashes, but they still seem a long way from being in the starting lineup. As for Felton, I think most on the board would be for it, but isn't he a lot like Monta on offense? Wouldn't Hinrich be a better fit for GSW?
I haven't followed Felton that much. But I recall that he was a speedy, up-paced type of PG. From my limited judgment I would believe that Felton is a much better natural point than Monta is. For example Felton has a career average of 6.6 assists per game, whereas Ellis is just at 3.4. Plus I think being a PG in college and having that experience is very important. I think most PG's out of high school have been disappointing, like Telfair and Livingston. I think Monta is much more of a SG. I'd be happy with Hinrich as well. I was just saying if there was a possible three way deal that could emerge between Toronto, Charlotte and Golden State, then I'd be interested to see the Warrior somehow get Felton from such a deal. But maybe Felton isn't that great either. But maybe he could emerge with Nelson as head coach.
Felton looks like a crappier version of Baron Davis. The guy just can't shoot. I'd rather take another point besides him. At least CJ can shoot, even though his D isn't that great.
