LA won't be the only team looking at Kidd. Cleveland, and Knicks are also teams to consider, the latter having more to offer, though. The way I see it is, Lakers are playing well right now, and I doubt they would want to do anything that could possibly disrupt their chemistry...not to say that Kidd has chemistry issues. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Kidd wouldn't even work in LA to begin with. We don't need a traditional point guard, just look at how well Gary Payton worked out for us. We just need someone who can keep the offense running smooth while being able to knock down open shots. I'm sure Kidd would be an upgrade over Fisher/Farmar, but just like in Dallas last year, he won't be utilized to his strengths, so technically, it would be a waste. The loss will outweigh the gain.
For one, Kidd now is still playing on a high level, not the case with Payton when he was with L.A. Second, Phil is no Avery. He would know how to use Kidd, ergo, it wouldn't be a waste.
But wouldn't utilizing Kidd the proper way mean changes in the offense? Change that the whole team will need to adjust to?
Phil is not going to change the offense that has won him 9 titles to accommodate Jason Kidd, when we don't even need him to begin with.
I see no point in dealing for him. The PG is one of the least important aspects in the triangle. All we need the PG for is knock down jumpers and occasionally get to the lane...Fisher is that knock down shooter and Farmar can do a little of both. No need for Kidd. At all, really.
