is anyone else surprised how much better Yi's rebounding looked compare to pre-season, when he couldn't grab one falling to his lap? I saw him getting up high and got some rebounds in traffic that I never seen him do before. I am wondering if this is a fluke, or somehow he figured out how to rebound just now. If he can sustain his 8.2 average throughout the season, I think he can lead the Nets in rebounding nobody else thought was going to happen. what's your thoughts?
It is quite possible, but we have to see the consistency. If he can do this month after month, then hell yeah. BUt his problem in Milwaukee is he would have a good 2-3-4 weeks and everyone would hype up his game, then he would have a set of bad games, then a good game, then more bad games. We just have to see the consistency, cause unlike your shot, rebounding is something that you can always do and get.
Considering his offensive skillset, if healthy, he'll get the most floor time of the bigs, so yes it's possible he could lead this team in rebounding at the end of the season. -Petey
I was at the Olympics and saw a lot of China's games where Yi played really poorly. However the thing that stood out was his rebounding. He finished in the top 5 and it look like he had improved his technique. I don't know what happen during the preseason but now it seem is getting his hands on a lot more rebounds. I would still like to see him attack the offensive glass a little more though.
If Boone continues to miss layups and airball free throws, thus giving Lopez around 25-30 mpg, I think Lopez would beat Yi in that category.
i think eventually lopez will be the teams top rebounder, and shot blocker too. And, of course a much better foul shooter than boone as well.
i think they'd rather boone miss layups left and right and still be shooting over 50% from the field rather than put lopez in there with his 37% shooting.
Boone's points are all on dunks. Lopez is much more versatile on offense. I would score over 50% too if all my shot attempts were dunks and layups.
being versatile on offense as a big man while shooting 37% isn't really worth much. obviously it's very early and a small sample size for his nba career thus far but for all the "offensive talent" lopez had in college, he never had a very good field goal percentage there either.
Yeah, it's going to come down to the minutes. I'd say Boone and Lopez are probably better rebounders than Yi...but he's going to end up getting more minutes. Hopefully he can keep taking advantage of it and put up nice rebounding numbers like he has so far.
I totally agree with you. The other thing is that most of the time Lopez doesnt get the ball at the beginning of the Shot clock. It is usually when the first play doenst work and he gets the ball when the clock is winding down. So he has to rush his shots. If this is the game plan, I dont know what you expect the rookie to do. He is going to have to learn what shots to take in these situations. I also think this is what also happens with Sean. Once again this is just a Frank play calling flaw.
If Yi continues to rebound like this and the Nets dont trade SWilliams, the smart trade bait may be Boone...if they think Lopez can come in and do well.
that is true but why can't more athletic big men (hello, SWat) with more offensive capabilities (Stro) get the point blank scoring opportunities Boone has had? because it also involves smarts, timing, communication, lots of practice and proper positioning and movement... it's the same thing as why can't everyone run the pick-and-roll to perfection like stockton and malone?
