Anybody here read this book? Is it any good? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreams_from_My_Father I was looking up articles about Obama's ancestory and it's very interesting. Among other things, some of his ancestors were killed by indians, one scalped and a women kidnapped. He also has an ancestor who accused people of being witches and one who owned slaves. One was killed by pirates and yet another killed by pro-slavery forces in the civil war who bushwacked his family and killed an infant child with burning coals. Also, many generations ago there was a very respected warrior and leader in eastern Africa. Interesting family.
The witch thing is Obama's father taking on an African shaman. Obama's father was college educated (I believe at Harvard), and the shaman was trying to use magic and stuff to scare him, but as an educated man, Obama's father knew that he didn't have any real powers and defeated the shaman and stole his hocus pocus potion.
You can really see the Ayers influence in Obama's writing style. Similar prose between the two men's first books. http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/10/evidence_mounts_ayers_cowrote.html
Well, a lot of people have ghost writers. But even is Ayers essentially wrote the words, it's still Obama's thoughts and observations.
