Who was the president that supported the terrorist regime of the Shah of Iran? Oh yeah, pretty much every Democratic and Republican president from between 1941 and 1979. Who was the guy who had our Marines run out of Lebanon with their tails between their legs after one bombing? Oh yeah, Reagan. Who was the guy who thought trading arms for hostages seemed like a pretty smart idea? Oh yeah, Reagan again. Who decided that Saddaam Hussein should remain in power during the Gulf War (a decision that seemed smart to me, but was also in many ways appeasing)? Oh yeah, Bush Sr. Who claimed that Somalia and Kosovo were "wag the dog" Clinton escapades we should get out of immediately? Oh yeah, pretty much every Republican. It's absolutely ridiculous and ignorant to blame 9/11 on just the Democrats. It's like saying, "Reagan won the Cold War!" when it ignores decades of work by millions of people all over the world, economics, and the policies of a number of US presidents and other world leaders.
If you ignore history, all the bad things are solely the Democrats fault, and all the good things are because of Republicans (and vice versa). For every point you brought up (which are good points), there could be made the same about Democrats. But that's not my point. It's silly to try to pin this all on one party (the appeasement theory presented by BP). We've been sticking our nose in their business for decades. Democrat and Republican alike. We are at fault (our Government) because we felt like we had the right to tell people what to do, and then 3 minutes later, stab them in the back. We got what we deserved, because we threw rocks at a hornets nest and then got cocky. And then we get surprised when we stopped paying attention to it and they started stinging us. So in retaliation, we went after the nest, (and in addition, went after the ant hill that was near the hornets nest) and have the gall to act offended or insulted that they're stinging us. We don't even have 3 solid countries on our own continent, yet we think we can tell others what to do. No wonder it bites us in the ass.
