Vai Cavalo was in the process of negotiating a new contract with the UFC before getting knocked out at UFC 90 by Junior dos Santos. Now he's out.

There was talk of awarding Werdum a shot at the title before the return of Randy Couture and the rise of Brock Lesnar. Werdum was (appropriately) ticked-off about not being included in the UFC heavyweight tournament and accepted the fight against dos Santos reluctantly, it being a no-win situation for him.

Dos Santos smashed through Werdum in the first round of their fight and sapped all of Werdum's negotiating power with the UFC. Talks between the two sides fell apart following the event and now Werdum is a free agent.

Werdum holds wins over Gabriel Gonzaga, Brandon Vera, Aleks Emelianenko, Alistar Overeem, and Roman Zentzov and has gone the distance with Andrei Arlovski and Minotauro Nogueira. No word on where he might end up.

Affliction will probably pick him up. They probably have the deepest heavyweight division out there so he'll get a lot of chances to fight and possibly beat a lot of big names and maybe one day return to the UFC.

Fabricio Werdum NOT out of UFC

"I'm surprised with this news. My sister is my manager and shes the one that deal with the UFC and she always contact me first before every decision is made and from what I know UFC didn't contacted her. I still have 4 more fights left on my contract until 2010. From what they told me I should fight in february, july, november and april of 2010. In fact, I'm moving to the USA because I'll prepare for those fights in the UFC with Rafael Cordeiro." said Werdum that is finishing all the details to move to USA in december...
