Ric Bucher was just on ESPN's coast-to-coast and said team officials from the Cavs said LeBron is 6'9" 274 lbs.

He moves this well at 274 lbs?! That's pretty damn scary.

Does anybody remember what Buck Williams size was, just as a comparison. 6'9" 250?

Can you think of a better tight-end. But he wouldn't be nearly as dominant in football as he is in basketball. He is a complete match-up nightmare. Remember, he's like 23, he's got another 10 years of being amazing before he declines.

almost every guy is done growing (upwards) by age 18 and those that aren't are usually growing at a much slower pace then they did earlier in their teens. I follow the pre-draft combine stuff pretty close as it's the best measure we have as to whats what size wise. In discussions I've had with various posters I've come to expect the argument that their guy is the exception to this... which is why I became curious enough to read up on it in the first place.

To my eyes LaBron is more or less the same sized guy he was when he entered the league at just over 6'7 barefoot and 245 lbs. We'll never know definitively as we only get these sorts of here-say reports that always seem to be well on the plus side of official measurements, but the claim the LJ has put on 30 pounds and now weighs more then Oden seem pretty out there. Believe it if you want, but I'm calling BS

LeBron is significantly more muscled-up now than he was in high school. Looking at pictures of him in high school, you can very easily see he has put on significant weight since those days. I don't know exactly how much, but it isn't hard at all to believe that he may have grown a measly inch (to 6'9" in shoes) and put on at least 20+ pounds since high school. Here is a picture of him in high school (I believe this was his senior year, but don't know for certain) that shows he was big for a high school player, but not the same muscled-up manchild he is now.

what year in HS is that photo... I'm guessing fresh/soph. And it's not 20 pounds it's that they're supposedly claiming, it's 30. 274??? No way.

btw... heres a quote from a guy who ought to be in the know of whats what from a little earlier this year...

    "I'm 6'9 and 260" James said. "I'm all right"

You are talking about a 5% difference. I'm sure tons of people here have their weight change over the year by 5% up or down. 274lbs is not unbelievable... is it?

That photo is his senior year. They started making him cover up his tattoo on his arm his senior year.

No, like I said in my post, I believe that is from his senior year in high school (as HCP confirmed). Considering nearly all professional athletes put on a significant amount of weight from their senior year in high school, I have no idea why you find it so hard believe LeBron would do the same, particularly when it is so obvious he has just by looking at before and after photos.

Maybe the reason I'm wary about believing anything but the tape on player size is because I've paid attention to the constant inflating of the size the entire 30+ years I've followed pro hoops. Geez it's news when a prospect measures in at the combine as tall/long as advertised. Maybe LeBron was the rare exception and grew after age 18... how would I really know this especially when thats a rumor with so many players and obviously the numbers just scream thats not the case?

Some would take the word of a PR department at face value, I won't... sorry. We are constantly fed conflicting info from management and the media regarding this stuff... KP relays Greg's 270 lbs at the Laker game, Mike Barrett claims he's lost 8 lbs since then, and then tonight the ESPN talking head (was that Teriko?) says that Greg told him before the game he's at 275.

But one things for sure, LeBron has been a freak of nature/beast since he entered the league. The guy in the HS picture was not the same as rookie LJ. Thats a lanky kid.

I've put on 50 pounds since HS.

It's quite obvious that Kirk Hinrich has put on weight over the past few seasons and lost a bit of quickness and agility in the process.

Tyrus Thomas has put on pounds, too.

Growing an inch or two and adding muscle (which is heavier than fat!) in the weight room is quite believable.

no wait, you're serious? Do you really think your putting on 50 pounds since HS is relevant here? Of course people can put on that sort of weight on but players are generally trying to stay slim not bulk up. Weight takes away from speed and endurance and of course causes more pounding on the joints. 274 is way way over what guys his height generally carry... and by guys I mean professional basketball players.
I got a wild hair and researched this a while back. It's pretty uncommon for men to grow much height wise past 18... I can't recall the precise percentage but its rare. So I'm not saying it's impossible he grew taller but rather that it's improbable he did. Google is right at your fingertips if you're really interested or want to try to prove me wrong here.

I graduated at 5'10, 108 lbs. When I went into the Marines I had to work out extra every day during Basic Training to get to the minimum of 128 I needed to graduate.
At the Academy I started lifting with weights...graduated at 6'0 160.
Eight years later, and I've stopped lifting heavy and lifted more to keep tone and in shape...much more aerobic than weights. My last physical in October I was 6'1, 197.

I don't think an elite athlete putting on 30 pounds in 5 years after HS is much of an issue at all.

He was an all-state WR at high school, and they had to take out monumental insurance for him to play (and I think he may have skipped his senior year football as a result).

What I've heard discussed is 6'9, 274lb with 5% body fat. Insane. If that's true, though, he should really be dominating down low more.
