Does Andris have a shot at making the all star game this season? Personally, I think he has too make it with what we have seen so far. And everyone vote for him!
I'd be totally shocked if he can beat out Yao to get voted in. He's putting up some good numbers so far, he's gotta have a good choice of the coaches picking him
If he keeps up his current pace I think you'd have to give him a shot, as a reserve at least. That's a tall order though, especially with the mercurial Nelson in charge of handing out minutes. Plus he just doesn't have the name recognition yet as so many of the other established stars do, and that's at least as large a part of getting in as putting up numbers is.
He obviously won't beat Yao with China voting. I hope he could somehow make it to the bench at least.
This is why I don't like the fans voting in the All-Stars. Last year, BD should have been an All-Star but the fans voted in Allen Iverson. Come on!
He's got a lot of stiff competition to beat out in the West is the problem. You got Amare (shoe in), Yao (voted in no doubt), Dirk, Boozer, David West (team record), Pau Gasol/Andrew Bynum and Tim Duncan and Blazers fans who may vote in Oden and Aldridge may get consideration too. will he be deserving? If he keeps up the rebounding rate, I'd say he most definitely does deserve it, but chances are he won't make it.
yeah but when they fill in the roster, they don't always adhere to picking by position between PF and C I find, but who deserves to be there/ reputation. TD and Amare can both fill in at center too.
I don't see happening unless we becomes a PO contender in first half. Jamison, Richardson, and Davis all couldn't make it despite putting great numbers, and I don't think Biedrins has a chance unless his stats are far superior than his competitors...
That's kind of a fair statement. But so far Biedrins is leading the West in rebounds. So I think with that under him, and going for him, I think he has a better chance of making the all-star game than the players you mentioned, assuming that he continues with that stat and his play.
I was about to write that Biedrins' chance may not be too bad, because Bynum hasn't been playing as well as people expected. Then, I just realized that Shaq is in Western Conference. I think his name alone may put him to All-Star, and he is actually playing pretty well at this point. If Shaq put something like 15/10 and Suns are around .600, I don't think Biedrins has a chance to take back up center position. Maybe one of last two spots with luck...
Biedrins has a slight advantage over all those guys that didn't make it as a Warrior. He plays C and I think that position is more stat driven than anything else given that there are only a handful of really good C's in the league. Meaning, if Beans is putting up solid numbers (i.e. top 3 in FG% and rebounding), he should get a lot of recognition from the league.
Does he deserve it? Yes. Will he be voted in by the fans? Most likely not, he's not a very popular player. The coaches might vote him in.
Agreed. Zero chance of the fans voting him in, especially with 1 billion Chinese voting for Yao. I have a little bit of faith in the coaches though. Hes officially leading the league in rebounding, hes getting a lot of mentions on national TV and coaches definitely respect him. The Warriors always seem to have their record going against them when it comes to all-star bids and likely will again this season but there are some positives for Beans. Firstly, he plays center. Obviously Yao will start but after that who is Beans' competition in the west? Amare should be moved back to PF since Shaq is there this year, Al Jeff is nice but his team's record will really hurt him (1-7 right now), Biedrins has clearly clearly better than Kaman, Camby, Chandler, Okur, Bynum, etc. Another thing to consider is that I think coaches actually like Beans. Baron got screwed because coaches don't like him and there are too many other good PGs in the west. Coaches love players like Beans who have great attitudes, do all the little things, play great defense, etc. AND Beans is probably the best center in the west (or the league?) when we're talking just about statistics. Hes behind only Dwight and Al Jeff in ppg, obviously above EVERYONE in rebounding. I'll never get my hopes up about a W making the ASG but I have a little hope with Beans.
I thought Baron would make it for sure as a Warrior and that didn't happen. Ginobli beat out Baron with inferior numbers just because he was on the Spurs. Coaches are bias, too, so I agree it's tough to get hopes up. But if Beans were putting up these kinds of numbers playing for the Lakers or the CEltics, he'd be hands-down All-Star...
