He is leading the NBA in free throws made per game at 9.8...and now averaging 21 ppg. Twice in the last two games, he has surpassed his previous career high of 27 (set last season after the trade) with games of 38 and 30. In those two games, he has shot 36 free throws, making 32 of them...an average of 18 free throws per game! He also had 8 assists last night, getting Lopez involved early. Tonight, will be a real test of his ankle...and considering how often he sacrifices his body, his health has to be a concern. He sprained BOTH ankles last season and the left one this season. Still, I don't think it's too much to expect him to average 23 to 25 points a game and 7 assists either this year or next, which would put him in the top rank of NBA point guards. (Meanwhile, by the way, Carter is averaging 23.1 ppg for the season and 26.8 over the last four...so the two of them are averaging 44.1 ppg and backup Keyon Dooling is averaging another 10.)
Because of Dooling's contributions, I'd argue that this is the strongest backcourt the Nets have had in five years, since Kidd's microfracture surgery. You can see that the Nets are almost there . . . the pieces are in place to be at least a decent team . . . they just need some experience and consistency, and someone to step up at the 3.
He's averaging 21 points off of 13 shots. which is ridiculous. I hope he can keep up his ability to get to the line, if he does and increases his percentage to his career average, he will be a ridiculous scorer. I think he could be like a bigger Allen Iverson.
Devin has tons of speed and drives to the rim effectively and draws the fouls. He's got a good shot as well.
well its all up to his ankles holding up, but when healthy he is one of the fastest point guards in the league, who btw plays excellent defense too.
There is another point. What he is doing now shows that some players, in the right environment, can take a big step up in their fourth and fifth years. Not every player arrives in the NBA fully formed, ready to excel. Somewhere out there are a few players like Devin Harris.
well if you think about it: didn't the proposed sign and trade with parker and the spurs a few years back, could have been the same. The spurs decided to hold on to parker and let him develop within their system, while Cuban wants the fix right away maybe with an aging Kidd. Cuban also let nash get away, but the suns let nash go first only to get him back. So Cuban has a history of letting good point guards go.
I agree, and with the way dallas is playing lately the 2010 draft is looking better and better. I would still like to see this team be the team that beats LaBron's team.
or sean may just take more time than brook or ryan. Both have played alot more basketball than sean and should take less time to develop. Sean is still trying to learn the game of basketball.
I really can't see Devin averaging 25/8. As I posted in another thread, 17/4/6 is realistic by the end of this season, at least in my opinion.
