I didn't say huge, star or big player. He is a role player. He is a role player that shoots, way better than the role player who is playing that role now. He is also the guy that was asked to guard some really big stars in this league last year and didn't get any credit for what he did, because it was a quiet contribution. Martell is always going to be the guy we could have drafted Chris Paul instead. He is never going to be that level of player. But I do believe he can be a solid role player, with a hell of a lot more experience than the guy playing now. I like Batum. But he is raw, and over each of the last few games has made a lot of mistakes. In a 2 point game like last night, maybe a Martell Webster making a couple of 3's makes the difference. Maybe a few of those 3's going in spreads the defense out and gets our bigs inside, and makes it a walk away victory.

I was referring to the OP with the huge comment and I'm pretty sure thats what others were doing with their more tempered expectations of MW.

It would have been great if Martell had been healthy and hit a few threes last night, opened up the interior for Portland's bigs, and helped them emerge with a victory... but there has been precious little of that from him thus far. Last year he was the 4th best 3 point shooter on the club and this year they have 4 guys shooting a higher percentage then he posted... heck as a team Portland is shooting well over Martell's percentage. Without him, I sure don't see outside shooting as a weakness of the club. They jacked up 21 attempts from deep last night, they just didn't hit them at the rate they've been enjoying. It happens.

btw... you should check the numbers if you think that Martell is a way better outside threat then Rudy and Travis... he's not.

There have been many trhread suggesting us getting a vet PG or SF, virtually no quality PG's are attainable, but a 26yr old like Geral Wallace is and I think he could be had very reasonably - I'd do it in a heartbeat.
