Re: Anthony Murrow... Morrow* According to teammates and coaches, he is hands down the best shooter on the team. He is an undrfated rookie that was nearly cut from the team. Thank God we signed him.
Re: Anthony Murrow... - Undrafted (don't think I saw his name on any draft board) - Invited to summer league camp as a fodder. Nobody really expected him to be invited to the training camp. - During the summer league, he averaged over 20 pts and shot over 70% in both fg% and 3 pts fg%, and Warriors signed him. - Didn't do whole a lot during the preseason, and if his contract wasn't partial guaranteed, we might have chosen Kurtz over him. - Lucky to be on the active roster, because of Ellis and Harrington's injury. - Got some playing time, because nobody on our roster can hit from outside and performed well in limited minutes. - Finally got the first start in NBA, and dropped 37 pts. Well, that's all I know about Morrow. He has a quick release, but I really thought he was on fire throughout the summer league, and he will eventually come down to the earth once the season starts. But, so far, he shot 61.5% from the field and 58.3% from 3 pts line. So, I guess he still is on fire. And, he surprised me with 11 rebounds today. At this point, he was what we expected from Bellinelli. For some reason, Warriors have a knack to find a value in bargain bin like Boykins, Cardinal, Barnes, Azubuike, Watson and Morrow. And, if you add Arenas and Monta in 2nd rounders, those are quite finds. Of course, our first rounders weren't as fortunate as those...
Re: Anthony Murrow... How many players have ever dropped 37 points in their first NBA start? Can't be that many.
Re: Anthony Murrow... Yep -- Morrow looked like Ray Allen against the Clips today... just plain torching that basket...
Re: Anthony Murrow... I knew this guy could shoot from what he did in the summer leagues. I am most impressed with the 11 rebounds stat though. That's pretty good. I hope the good performances keep on coming.
Re: Anthony Murrow... Wow, the Warriors always get this undrafted players or second round picks to get somesolid PT. Where did this guy go to college?
Re: Anthony Murrow... I saw the box score and I was like "Who the...?". I had never heard of this guy, and he dropped 37 yesterday. Props to him and I wish him the best.
Re: Anthony Murrow... Box score doesn't even tell the story, if you can believe that. Yes he was 15-20, but he only shot about 3 lay-ups. It was all from the outside, just lasering jumper after jumper after jumper. The dude was unconscious, to the point where the Clippers' fans were chanting "Morrow" in the final minute to get him a shot at 40 points... Looked like Ray Allen...
Re: Anthony Murrow... I like his after-practice interview from Friday 11/14 posted on the Warriors website. He's going to be good. You could see that he took the advice from that practice and used it in yesterday's game. He was doing some pump-fakes, taking his time, using great court awareness and just dissecting the Clippers defense. He made some nice drives and everything. I am not sure if the Clippers defense is just that bad or if he is just that skilled. Maybe a bit of both. The Warriors' undrafted guys play well against the Clippers. I remember Azubuike had a breakout game against them his rookie season too - I think it was like his first career NBA start too. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=270117012
Here's an entire montage of his performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcMEoGoTMWo Dude's a sick shooter, gorgeous stroke, but I think hes very weak in other aspects. Ball handling and passing are well below average for a SG, hes not normally a good rebounder AFAIK. He seems to be a mediocre athlete as well. Isn't too quick, isn't too fast, isn't very explosive, doesn't seem to have much hops. I question his ability to drive and finish due to poor ball handling and athleticism. I haven't seen much of his defense but he seems slow laterally and somewhat weak. He does seem to be good at pump faking and getting a good shot. Shot is hard to block or alter because he has a high release point. Has a good mid-range game. Overall hes very impressive for an undrafted rookie. I think he can stick in the league because he does do one thing very well but I wouldn't expect him to necessarily be a rotation player unless he proves me wrong about the ball handling and ability to finish. He might have to develop a little floater or something to compensate for lack of explosiveness.
Morrow's first game was one of the most fun games I've ever seen so far. I thought this guy was going to a boring set shooter, but it turns out this guy has some ability to create. I guess 4 years of college got this guy pretty polished because he had some moves and BAILED the warriors out in the 2nd half (and thank goodness our players were looking for him, I bet Baron would have launched it without thinking). Morrow was so good, we almost forgot that Biedrins was putting up another game of all-star numbers. I'm sure defenders will figure how to slow Morrow down and take him out of rhythm, but that finesse he has is just uncanny. I really like this Morrow guy because he reminds me of a hustle Michael Redd. Just super explosive and has one of the quickest releases shooting the ball. He catches it and the ball is already on its way to the hoop, perfect arc, none of this line drive bullcrap that Azu has been shooting lately. Morrow's hustle was excellent and even though he was tired, he just kept shooting it so consistently. It was amazing to see a tired player just get in the zone. Plus he had a well rounded game besides scoring. 37 points isn't such a big deal compared to how he swung the ball around, made himself available for the passers to hit him, and he pulled down double digit rebounds. We have had problems on the glass lately in the backcourt and he really helped out. He looked like a real smart player out there who has talent that our league is lacking (guys who can shoot). I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I think his game looked like somebody who spent 4 years in college and possesses the rare talent of being able to shoot quickly with accuracy.
Nice stroke but from what I saw Thurs. night, just no lateral D; he was getting torched by Will Bynum for gosh sakes!!! Now 15-20 for 37? Awesome. But I bet Bellinelli is wondering what if I got 20 shots? Marco keep your chin up, you play better D and are a better passer. Morrow? Its just one game, let's see what happens in the long run.
I think our lateral quickness and defensive effort in the backcourt is a teamwide problem. CJ Watson was behind Iverson on so many plays it was embarassing. Then I saw Azu get beat a few times and we know he can play D on guys like Kobe. What's going on here? It's probably inexperience and lack of some ideal physical qualities. We know Belinelli ain't the quickest man going side to side and he has played defense pretty well except for one play where he gambled and got behind the play. It seemed like Pietrus was the only tall swingman that could move his feet faster than any other player of around that size. The only quick lateral players we have are Wright, Biedrins, Randolph and Ellis. That's about it and they're all sticks. I think the heavier they are, the slower they are going side to side, I guess. Belinelli is the only stick who doesn't seem to move very quickly side to side, but he can make up for it by running fast down the court and jumping out of the gym.
