And I'm shocked that there hasn't been a thread about this yet, to be honest. The Yanks offered CC somewhere in the lines of 6yrs for $140mil, which is just nuts. It would make him the highest paid pitcher ever by about $3mil over Johan. There's also some other tidbits in here if you care as well, it's not ALL about the Yanks...in fact...there isn't a huge amount in there, it was just the first source I could find for a link. Source
You'd think with me posting an article about Dazzel Razzel being sold, someone would make this thread
No one else is offering that much. I'm a bit worried about his post season results, though. He was spent this year, however.
I'm really not worried about the post-season results. I realize he's been sub-par in the postseason thus far, but things can certainly change. And at least we'll have consistency in our rotation for the season, and that alone will be much needed when you consider that we only had one consistent pitcher last season in Muss.
Do we really care if we're overpaying him? We're Yankee fans. The owners of our team have the deepest pockets in sports and money is really not an issue to them.
Eh, I'd rather have the extra 10 mil go into buying 2 more international players, but it doesn't really effect us like it would effect other teams.
In terns of salary scale... I think it's overpaying. Pitchers better than CC: Johan Santana Roy Halladay Pitchers on CC's level: Peavy Hamels Lincecum Brandon Webb Pitchers with more talent than CC, but always injuried: Rich Harden Scott Kazmir He's going to be overpaid, but because the Yankees want him. This signing sends players a powerful reminder, if you are a pending FA, do not sign a long term contract (Johan), wait out the year regardless if you are moved or not, and see what the Yankees will bid on your services. -Petey
