With regard to timing, expect no confirmation (if it is indeed true) until Monday. League office has to approve all trades and it isn't open til then. I think there is a good chance it's true. Informing players they are about to be traded is what agents do. The team informs the agent (or the agent tries to bring both sides together) and the agent then informs the player. So the story makes sense in that regard. HoopsWorld quotes sources (plural) so that helps its credibility as well. Moreover, Belinelli's brother said two days ago Marco wants out and that efforts were being made. (Belinelli doesn't have an agent. His brothers represent him.) John Morrow's 37 point outburst for Golden State Saturday means Belinelli will never see the light of day again in Golden State. Morrow is a swingman who is Belinelli's age...and who Nelson obviously loves. Having his brother go public with a trade request/demand, whatever, can't help. Best case scenario would be for the Warriors to simply want their draft pick back. They would have a hard time doing a straight up deal for anyone. They have 16 players under contract with Monta Ellis on the suspended list for another month...and thus not counted towards the 15 player minimum. Of course the Nets are at 15 and would have to dump someone, too. either in this deal or a buyout. It will have to be creative.
I don't think anything will happen before Dec. 15th. Then, teams can trade free agents they signed in the summer. It will give both teams more options to work things out. And the Nets free agent acquisitions this year have very movable contracts.
though i would rather swap stro/hassell or simmons/ager for harrington/belinelli...i wouldn't mind swapping SWat for marco...we need a part-time pg and shooters and have a surplus of big men so what is there to think about? SWat is further down the big men pecking order so he is the logical choice. i like sean too but what can you do?
I am ALL for this to happen. I've wanted Marco on this team for a while now. I was bummed we passed on him in the '07 draft. I've been wanting Thorn to trade for him ever since. The time is now to trade for him because his value is as low as it's gonna' get. And it won't hurt to have an Italian on this team. He, like Yi, will help sell tickets!!
Sean is not a starter. Boone should not be a starter. If both are coming off the bench like they should on a decent NBA team... who would you rather have? I pick Boone, even with his shady free throw shooting. -Petey
Kerber reports Belinelli's name came up in discussions with the Warriors but that it doesnt appear to be anything serious and he doesnt even mention who might have gone the other way. Doesn't sound real right now.

Trading for Harrington might really taper the development of Lopez, Anderson and Yi. Yi and Anderson more so as they seem to have similar games to Harrington... so why not throw out the 2 youngsters unless once again, Frank and Thorn think that this is a playoff team. -Petey
http://www.netsdaily.com/?p=6745 The deal was turned down by Thorn. They wanted either Boone or Sean and we declined. I think we should have explored the deal a little more. Try to build on it. I don't understand why they would need Sean, but that's not our problem.
I'm glad Thorn shot down a Marco trade. Why would we give up a big for anproven 2 guard who plays zero defense? Our plethora of bigs is one of our few valuable trade chips and just throwing it away now would be foolish, especially for someone who doesn't even address our current needs. I'm a huge Warriors fan and I just don't see how giving away one of our bigs would change Marco from being an end of the bench player for a coach who preaches defense. This isn't a Boki situation where we play him despite his faults because he has a good outside shot, we have a number of capable shooters this season who do the intangible things and they would keep him glued to the pine under Frank. Is the sweet stroke what gets you? A week ago people were coming up with every reason to shoot down a Carroll trade and he actually hustles on top of being a proven NBA role player. I just don't get it, and i'm glad Rod saw it the same way.
If the Nets will try to deal Swat, I believe that he will be used as the "chip" to rid themselves of Hassell, or Simmons. Nothing else really makes sense to me. Trading Sean for a swingman will just further add to the glut of 2s and 3s, and won't create roster space to pick up an emergency PG or an emergency big.
Pathetic how do you not trade Sean for Marco? We got like 7 pf/c Marco woulda been drazen petrovic 2.0 all those 3's he sick marco italian too nj = italy he woulda been rejuvanted
In some ways, Marco Belinelli is like Sean Williams. He is all about potential and fans of both teams see their guy as someone who would, if only given a chance, thrive. Marco Belinelli is about as much like Drazen Petrovic as Sean Williams is like Amare Stoudemire. Four years ago, Rod Thorn wanted Cliff Robinson but for weeks couldn't get a deal done with Jeff Mullin. Mullin wanted a first round pick for Uncle Cliffy. Thorn refused. Ultimately, Mullin relented and accepted two first second round picks, the Clipper pick in 2005 (obtained in the Kittles deal) and the Net pick in 2007. Neither player taken with those picks is still in the NBA. Chris Taft played one year for the Warriors, but was hurt and is now, I believe, out of basketball because of back problems. Stephen Lasme was a bust almost from Day 1 and is now playing in Europe. Maybe Thorn tries again, offering a TE and a pick or Ager...whatever...or maybe Mullin remembers how he got played. (The other rumor is that the Warriors will package Al Harrington and Belinelli for Jason Kapono, Joey Graham and Kris Humpries. THAT trade makes a lot of sense. Jamario Moon has regressed for the Raptors, Sam Mitchell hardly uses Kapono and everyone now realizes Graham isn't very good. Belinelli is close friends with Bargnani and the assistant GM in Toronto, the Italian, loves Belinelli from the old country.)
