I voted Yi because I think his size is valuable and I like Anderson coming off the bench getting more touches with the starters resting. Anderson has obviously been out-performing him the last few games, though. And if Frank were to be willing to inject Ryan into the starting line-up, I'd guess he'd slot him in at the three if the match-ups would allow for it. Slightly off-topic but I just remembered that I heard Yi had an agreement with the Bucks last year that said he had to play something like a minimum of 20 minutes a game. Does that still apply or did it never exist or what?
totally made up by media and fans. I think if Yi's shot is dropping, He's just a better player than Ryan. He's longer and, can defend and rebound better. Ryan has out played Yi for the last couple games, so he's getting more minutes and finishing the game. I think that's a good arrangement by Frank, everyone has to earn their minutes. There are nights Yi's gonna be hot and Ryan won't be, Yi's gonna play more minutes. It probably make both of them work harder knowing that their minutes ain't guaranteed.
look skill set Yi > anderson... but understanding the game and being more comfortable as of right now... Anderson > Yi...
when your shots are dropping, it makes you understand the game better and look a lot more comfortable. He's not going to shoot over 70% from the field and 100% from 3s every game. He does have some nice looking offensive moves, and definitely deserve minutes. There are times he's going to struggle like all young players, It's hard to make accurate judgment after 2-3 games.
Yi is the better prospect and the better player right now. In no way does that mean that Anderson is bad, because he is awesome.
right now this early into the season i'd have to go with Anderson with Yi a close second. Consistancy is the key here cause both bring alot of basketball to the table. Right now Mr. Anderson has it going while Yi has it one night, then takes 2 nights off and becomes mr. invisible. That will change of course as the season drags on, but on a good note the improved play of Mr. Anderson can only force Yi to get his act together faster or it may cost him his starting job.
only reason yi should start is because anderson seems like a player that can turn it on at any time. if yi is cold coming off the bench he is really going to stink. he needs to get his head in the game and stop playing like a fool.
Ryan has made net positive contributions in every game (including preseason) in which he was given minutes. If it wasn't shooting, it was getting tough boards, drawing fouls on putbacks, making a nifty pass, picking off a pass, or what have you. He is now finding the rhythm on his shots in the flow of the offense, and, as expected, that has sent his FG% soaring. No, it won't stay as high as it is, but perhaps the most touted of his abilities coming out of a tough college conference was the beauty and reliability of his stroke. He will have a long career in this league if for no other reason than he will shoot a high percentage from deep and do it from the PF position. Yi, on the other hand, has been notoriously up and down, brilliant one game, horrid the next. The best signs from him lately are that he is cutting down on some of the really stupid plays and is being more consistent with his rebounding and defense, even in games where he is not getting many shots or when his shots aren't falling. When he's on, it's easy to see that he has major star potential and a higher ceiling than Ryan. Because one of our best assets right now is depth and the ability to put fresh bodies on the floor who can produce, I'm not particularly worried about who starts. In fact, I'd prefer Yi to start precisely because his inconsistencies can be masked better by Harris and Carter, when necessary, and the more reliable Anderson can come in and help spark the second unit. As to who should see more minutes overall and who should close games, it should be a game to game assessment, going with whoever seems to be producing best that night.
I'm pleasantly surprised, this is turning out to be a good discussion. Like the reasoning so far from both sides. Personally, I would like Yi to start because he'll sell more tickets for the Nets. I like what Ryan brings to the team too. This has the potential to turn out the same disaster as the Yi / Villanueva problem with Bucks, but I think the player chemistry here will work better. I don't think Yi will become a consistent scoring player until he adjusts his inside and driving game. This might take the entire season. He's in little bit of a double bind, he's told to spread the floor for Carter and Harris, yet the fans also want to see more of an inside game from Yi because he's 7 foot.
I liked the reasoning to, until I read that. You don't have a guy start because he'll "put more people in the seats." Winning puts more people in the seats, as evidenced by the San Antonio Spurs, whose most "exciting" player, Manu Ginobli, comes off the bench. I would like to see whichever player gives us the best chance of winning to start. Also, playing anywhere but the Izod center would help put fans in the seats as well.
I like Anderson coming off the bench and Yi starting. I definably didn't expect Anderson to be this good for the Nets. I was saying he got drafted to high, but it looks like he got drafted to low.
We need punch of Ryan off the bench, and Yi seems to "need" the kickout abilities of Harris and Vince more.
If Anderson is better than Yi must we always start the best players? I like Anderson off the bench and closing out games. He's playing great off the bench and Lopez is playing great as a starter. I say we keep it that way for now. I think Yi's biggest problem is still language. I know he knows some english, but the better he gets with the language I think he'll get better on the court. When he does have it going it's a bonus along side Lopez.
well if yi can do well with carter and harris starting, imagine a guy who currently has the highest 3 point shooting percentage in all of the nba do with those two guys passing out to him more than if he was just playing casual minutes off the bench? I know its a rebuilding system but really that makes no sence since both are really rookies. To be a starter in the nba even on a team that is rebuilding like the nets you should be consistant and so far yi isn't. I don't understand how Yi has accumulated so much " capital " with the fans already, while ryan isn't.
I voted for Ryan...but Yi should start. I know that makes no sense but Ryan Anderson has become one of my favorite players...figured I'd throw him my vote.
yi should start and ryan should come off the bench...it's been working great so far...if yi gets a virus or something we'll see ryan as a strater but every game counts and we shouldn't fix what aint broke...
As good as Anderson has been, I am for Yi. Anderson coming off the bench is better for the Nets. I think we found our sixth man. I picture Anderson like Gordon from the bulls. We know they should be starting but they are damn good coming off the bench. Like someone said, it is also mental. Anderson has more confidence then Yi. He can handle coming off the bench. If you bench Yi, that could really mess up his game.
