Was just looking at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993-94_NBA_season So many things catch the eye. I had totally forgotten that Latrell Sprewell was actually a 1st teamer all NBA one year. What happened to that guy? He had a couple good seasons left in him. Look at the All-Rookie team. None of those guys play anymore. And wow, remember Dino Radja? Of course, my favorite thing about this page is the difference between the Lakers and Blazers records. And check out who led the league in steals. In retrospect, though I rooted for the Nuggets, it's really sad what happened to the Sonics that year. They had a great great season and they owned the Rockets but they never got to prove it. Again, in 1995, the Sonics go down in the first round. Finally, in 1996, the Sonics met the Rockets in the playoffs and swept em. Would the Rockets have won the championships in 94 and 95 if the Nuggets and Lakers hadn't ousted the Sonics in those two years respectively?
sprewell is kind of like rasheed in that people only see the bad in them and never see how good they are. Sprewell did lead the Knicks two the finals and helped garnett to the west finals one year.
Spree for three! The Warriors could have built a pretty good team around Sprewell and Chris Webber, if not for the fact that both were malcontents.
I for one am glad Sprewell choked Pj. Pj ruined the warriors and before that he ruined the Blazers. I can't belive anyone would hire that man too coach their team.
Sprewell should NEVER have got first-team all-NBA (and I said this at the time, on rec.sport.basketball.pro, so it's not just hindsight). He was always a streak-shooting gunner. He was a taller Vernon Maxwell (with better hops). Playing for a Don Nelson team always inflates scoring and shooting %. Having said that, his finest hours were almost certainly as a Knick, when the #8 team made it to the Finals. But Marcus Camby deserves more credit for that (and it wasn't as amazing as it seemed, because that was the lockout year and there was less difference between top and bottom than in any normal season). His first team All-NBA should be filed alongside Dale Davis's and Jamal Magloire's All-Star games. Sprewell replacing Jordan in the first team was on a par with Pete Myers replacing Jordan in the Bulls. (I remember one year when the starting backcourt of the West All-Star team was Sprewell and Dan Majerle, and Barkley commented that it was pretty sad that he was the power forward and could dribble better than either of them.)
Two points on two posts. PJ Carlesimo may have been a lousy head coach. That does not justify physical assault. As to Sprewell being first team all NBA, remember, he got the honor with the lowest vote total ever. It was an odd year. Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson had been first team guards for a number of years. Then Magic retired and Clyde made first team in 92. But then Clyde was hurt, Jordan retired, and there was no real standout. My recollection is that Sprewell just beat out Mitch Richmond, who was on 2nd team, by something like 2 or 3 points. PS look who led the league in 3 point %. Another flame out, though.
