If Raef is going to expire anyway, I'd prefer to take Hinrich and let blake go in the summer. By exchanging sergio and blake's salary, Hinrich adds almost zero incremental salary and provides an upgrade over blake. His skill set pairs well with Roy because he has the ability to play off the ball, as a spot up PG, but defensively he can guard PGs and well I might add. I like the trade on first look. Edit: looking at it again, we'd take on a few more millions, but not so many that it'd severely compromise our cap potential. It's still worth it for me to upgrade the starting PG position.
Well the Bulls waiving Nichols to get their roster trimmed to 14 bodies today does certainly seem to indicate that they could be preparing for some kind of move ... I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
This is great. This sets into motion two things. Ben Gordon is the shooting guard of the future for the Bulls and also that they are going after the 2010 plan! Bulls fans, lets get ready to welcome Lebron to Chicago...well that or Amare...or Dirk...or Bosh....or maybe welcome Chandler back....
The Bulls are walking a luxury tax tight rope, and in this trade, the Bulls would take on extra salary, and Nichols contract was not fully guaranteed so they can cut him to shave a bit of money to sneak under the luxury tax.
Actually Lafrentz contract is extra sweet for GMs worried about money because in another 31 games his contract is insured for 80% of its value, meaning any team that acquires him in trade is only going to be on the hook for his remaining salary at 20% plus the difference of however many games pass between now and the half-way mark in the season (roughly $2 million + $146,000 per game before game 41)
Don't forget that a good sized portion of Raef's salary will be covered by insurance - Bulls save that way too i believe?
The great thing about Raef's contract that you may or may not know is that it will more than likely be paid by isurance, saving the team that owns his rights around 10 million dollars. So while you are taking on more salary, you would actually be paying out less.
I think that since NBA salaries per game are paid at 1/110 season salary, it's actually at $115,659 per game, but the rest of your post is fine.
Hinrich is mediocre at his absolute best, and is looking more and more like someone who briefly overachieved and will be out of the league in a few years. No way he draws any interest at all from the Blazers. He sucks, to put it mildly.
In addition, Hinrich played better defense than anyone on that list except Billups and Harris. If Pritchard believes Hinrich can return to that form, I'd be in favour of the deal.
Please no to Hinrich, unless it is for Blake frye and Ike. I'd rather have Sergio than Kirk right now, and Raef's deal should net us something more imo.
I do not oppose Le Capitan - but I agree with this statement - the cap space for him seems like a wasted opportunity.
I could go either way on this. Sergio is actually playing pretty decently lately and this trades away a pretty good piece in La Frentz's contract. On the other hand Hinrich could fit in well on this team there is no guarantee we will do better either in the offseason or before the trading deadline.
If the best we get for Raef's contract is Hinrich... ouch... Every team in the league is trying to shed salaries simply so they can go after the '03 draft class.
But few teams are trying to shed salary by dumping excellent, young players. They largely want to drop highly-paid, declining veterans or players who are underperforming. Shopping in the "salary dump" section means choosing between flawed players.
