That's as bad as Fukudome standing next to Willie Mays at the All-Star game last year.

    Yeah, it would be horrible.

It would put Yi into a horrible situation, in the same manner Carter was asked to step aside for Jordan.

If Yi makes it (which he shouldn't), and RJ doesn't, that'll be great.

He got just 450,000 write in votes last year...let's say he gets an increase of 200,000 this year (somehow) if he was still on write in. That's probably not enough to beat KG and definitely not LeBron.

But the NBA is so fucking focused on marketing that they put him on the ballot. Now there's a way higher chance that he'll eclipse even 1,000,000 votes, easily making the starting 5.

I'd laugh. The coach would probably take him out after like the first couple possessions anyway.

Wait-- they didn't say his name is gonna be ON the ballot this year, did they?

I'd lose my faith in the All Stars if he gets in, not that I watch the AS game anyways. Does anybody still watch the AS game besides the dunk contest?

I watch the whole weekend, gives me an excuse to have friends over and stuff.

If Yi and Starbury start, I will laugh my ass off. No joke....funny shit. None of the blame should be put on Yi though.

This is like fear mongering from Boston/Garnett fans. Oh Noz.. they took our jorbs.. I mean votes!

Edit: This means the all-star game matters in any way? Girls with nice tits usually wins the popularity contests.

I think it would be funny as hell. What else could they do? Cut foreign votes into half? That would be a disaster. I'm sure a few decades from now both conferences' starting lineups will be made up of Chinese players lol. Can you imagine Yi, Harris and VC all on the team? The latter two deserve it so far this season, definitely not Yi lol

    Right... terrible...

Let's be honest here. If you're the type of person who watches the All-Star game, it's not going to matter whether Yi's on the roster. Everyone you wanted to see will still be there. You're still gonna watch. If anything, the controversy will provide MORE viewers, at least to see whether he gets booed or not during introductions.

On the other side of the coin, you've now got 100 million Chinese people incredibly jazzed over another high profile Yi-Yao matchup. That's a TON of jerseys sold, commercials, etc.

Give the People('s Republic) what they want!

people actually pretending that yi has a chance to win a starting spot in the allstar game due to fan voting is the real embarrassment.

it's not going to happen. it's not going to come close to happening.

the east all-star starting 5 is pretty much a given.
    it is Dwight at C.
LeBron and KG at the Forward spots,
and Wade and Iverson at guard.

these players are far more popular than the other players on the ballot for the east.
VC might come the closest, but he will be still pretty far.

for Yi, being put on the ballot is as much of a con as a pro.

Last season he was a write in, so chinese voters could add him, after voting for the 2 best forwards.
It was a no brainer, since who else do you write in, if you are chinese? you can only write in players, who are not on the ballot... he probably was wrote in most chinese votes.

Now, if they want to vote for Yi, they have to leave out LeBron or KG. and most of them will not do that.
I expect that Yi's votes will go down from last seasons numbers, because of being put on the ballot.

wouldn't it be better for the nets if Yi does get selected over KG? It'll certainly open another fowards eyes to how popular Yi is in China. They got nike in China too you know.

I doubt many people even remember the starters for last year's game.

    RJ = no chance.

Bosh, Brand, Butler, Pierce. Which one will he beat out?

Yi needs 1.5M votes at least to get in, but I doubt he will. Garnett got more votes than LeBron last year.

Don't forget that a lot of the Nets games are broadcast in China this season. I wouldn't put anything past a group of motivated internet users.

Especially if the Chinese government decides to help things along. ;)
