If Washington continues to struggle, then this could be one of those teams that looks to dump one of their stars for cap relief and good young prospects. Obviously they aren't going to be able to trade Arenas so next in line would be Butler especially considering they have a budding star in Nick Young. Seems like a perfect trading partner at the trade deadline. Thoughts???? http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3608
I doubt Washington trades Butler. I could see them shopping Jamison heavily before giving up on Butler. Price tag would probably be extremely expensive too
When we had the #3 pick in the '05 Draft the Lakers offered Caron Butler to Portland for the #3 pick. The player I'd want from Washington is 7'0" PF JaVale McGee. The guy is very skilled and ready to play now.
Your probably right but they'll get a lot more for Butler. My thought is they already have a good young SG/SF (Nick Young) that is waiting in the wings. They are going to loose their ass this year with Arenas, Jamison and Bulter's contracts and a very bad team on the court. This is the exact scenario we are looking for in a trading partner. They could use a big, a PG and possibly another SF. I would hate to ever let go of Pryz but this is one of those cases I wouldn't hesitate.
I like Caron Butler. The thing I have noticed about him though, is when guys like Arenas are playing, he tends to dissappear. He had the same problem when he was in LA with Kobe. Then when a major player gets hurt, he steps up. They come back, he dissappears again...
Yep I really like what I saw from him in pre season. He was going to the hoop, and seemed to play very well when in the game with Rudy, as they hooked up on quite a few back door passes. December 5...it will be here soon.
Washington would be foolish to let Butler get away, but I think they're stuck with Arenas, good bad or ugly, so I guess it's a possibility. If he really does end up on the block then I would be willing to give up anybody outside of Roy, Aldridge, Oden, and Fernandez to get him and I'd probably even consider Lamarcus or Rudy if it really came down to it.
I wouldn't consider Aldridge. A talented big man who's five years younger just seems much more valuable to me. I'd consider Fernandez, but probably not pull the trigger. I think Fernandez has a chance to be as good as Butler, and he's much younger. If I could get the deal done without using Oden, Roy, Aldridge or Fernandez, I'd love to get Butler. And if I could preserve Batum, so much the better. The team does have more trade chips. Cap space plus Outlaw and maybe Bayless should be a pretty enticing offer.
He'd be too expensive. If we go that rout, I'd rather look at a Shane Battier. He wouldn't cost nearly as much as Caron Butler.
To expensive? Raefs contract, Travis, Bayless would surely entice them. If we can keep LMA, Roy, Rudy and Oden then it's not to expensive. We're talking about an elite SF. Caron is in his prime and considered a very good defender.
I'm sure they'd want more in return for their prime All-Star. Though, I'd be more willing to give up those pieces if we can get McGee in the deal. The guy is solid.
You're insane. Caron's contract for the next 3 years: 9,249,980 10,030,970 10,811,960 For a guy that gets 19 points per game on 44% shooting, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and has fluctuated between 1.5 and 2 steals a game throughout his career and is a decent wing defender. He would easily be one of our top 3 players and he's old enough to have some veteran experience as well as some playoff experience. Battier wouldn't be bad, but for a paltry 3 million more per year, Caron would be much more effective two way player.
I am pretty sure he meant we would have to give up too much to get him, rather than his contract. edit: never mind
My bad, but it still underscores the point that you have to give up some value to get value, and the fact of the matter is that Caron Butler is an all-star caliber small forward, well rounded, and this team has too many players and not enough minutes to go around. Battier would probably be "cheaper" in terms of what we would have to give up, but would the return be worth it? Butler is easily worth trading away several of our role-players, and some potential "star" talent in order to get him. If it takes a 3 for 1 deal that doesn't include Roy, Aldridge or Oden then I think KP has to give a deal for Butler long and serious thought ... it remains however, that he's probably unavailable and will remain that way.
Buttered or non-buttered? I'm assuming we get ice with the drink. I'd think about it. As for Caron, I like our SF situation as is. We need a PG. Hell, maybe we don't even need that. I'm a huge Webster fan though.
