So, since everyone has officially played half their games, I figured we might as well go at this. MVP: Kurt Warner - I never thought I'd say this again, but he's got to be the MVP. He's putting up ridiculous numbers and is the leader of one of the best offenses in the NFL. He's been damn good, to say the least. OPOY: Kurt Warner - Look above. He's putting up huge numbers and doing it week in and week out. OROY: Matt Ryan - Who seriously thought the Falcons would be this good? Probably no one. This guy is the reason why. He's been brilliant as a rookie and looks like he's going to run away with this award. The only other person who can compete with him is Chris Johnson, and I don't know if he can with Lendale White hogging all the TDs. DROY: I'll be honest here...I have no idea. COY: Bill Bellichick - Lose Tom Brady and Rodney Harrison? No problem apparently. Despite two huge injuries, plus Maroney being out for most of the season, the Pats are still 6-3 and sitting atop their division. When Brady went down, who really expected that? This has been, in my opinion, the most impressive coaching job of Bill's very illustrious coaching career. DPOY: Demarcus Ware - This is partially bias, as I'll admit to that, but he's putting up huge numbers and has really been the only positive on what has been a horribly underachieving defense.
MVP: Kurt Warner OPOY: Drew Brees OROY: Matt Ryan or Eddie Royal DROY: no clue COY: Jeff Fisher DPOY: Albert Haynesworth
MVP: I guess Kurt Warner OPOY: Drew Brees DPOY: Joey Porter OROY: Matt Ryan DROY: Aqib Talib.......? COY: Mike(?) Smith from ATL
It feels weird saying Kurt Warner is the MVP. I think with those two receivers, just about any QB could be decent not named Matt Leinart. Who else could contend for MVP?
I think Michael Turner would be a guy who could be mentioned in the MVP discussion, because he's been huge to that Atlanta turnaround. Depending on how the season shakes out, Romo could have his hand in there too, especially considering how awful the Cowboys looked without him. You could also potentially look at Kerry Collins. His numbers aren't eye popping, but he's done what has been asked from him and is a big reason why the Titans are undefeated. Eli Manning (as much as I hate him), could probably also be mentioned in there. Hmmm....that's about all I've got right now.
I was thinking: Eli Manning, Michael Turner, Brandon Jacobs, and Thomas Jones all might have some credibility.
Honestly, Romo has been more impressive than Eli this season in the fewer games he's played in. Not that I'm saying Romo is the frontrunner, but that is just an example. The thing with Eli is that he might not be passing enough times and he's kind of only managed the game the last couple of months.
I'm not saying Eli statistically deserves it but I believe the Giants are the best team in football and I think the leader of that team might deserve the MVP award.
I don't know if Eli is really the "leader" of that team. He may be the QB and all...but I'd venture to say that he's not even the most valuable player on that team, and maybe not the most valuable player on the offense.
Eli is money in the clutch--he is that team leader and I think if you were to poll the players on that team they'd tell you that. (Ew, I can't believe I am defending him). The only Giant player I like is Jacobs.
kerry collins has thrown 8 td passes this season and is the 20th rated qb in the league. please refrain from mentioning his name again in mvp discussions.
Why is it really unfair to mention Kerry? Stats don't tell the whole story in his case. His impact has been huge on that team. His ability to manage the game and come through when they need him are two of the biggest reasons why they are undefeated, and I'd say that if Vince was still QB of this team, they'd probably be no better than .500 or slightly above.
Eli is definitely the leader on that team (or one of them). But he's not an MVP candidate, IMO. He just hasn't passed the ball enough to warrant it. And that doesn't even mean he's a game manager (he makes plays when given the opportunity), but when your running game is that dominant there's really no reason to take the ball out of their hands. I actually don't think anybody on the Giants is an MVP candidate. That team is so well built and well coached, that singling out one player would unfairly neglect others who've helped them play so well. These players play as a unit, in every sense of the word.
because people are massively overrated the impact of kerry collins. the reasons the titans are undefeated are the defense, chris johnson, lendale white, and then kerry collins(and of course the offensive line thrown in somewhere ahead of collins as well). there are at least 5 guys on the titans who would deserve mvp consideration before collins(haynesworth, johnson, white, finnegan, bulluck). just because he plays qb doesn't change that.
Game manager is a vague term (I don't think I'm using it in the same sense you are), he's simply cooled off recently though aside from not passing enough.
I don't see how it's overrated. He may not have a great statistical impact, but his impact goes beyond the stats. He manages the offense and isn't making mistakes. He knows when to try and force the issue and when to just check down or throw it away. And he proved last week that he is still capable of winning a game for them if need be by tossing 3 TD passes. Needless to say, if Vince Young is the QB of this team, there is no way they're undefeated.
