Nope. The L*kers never get jobbed by the refs. Don't forget the official underwear of NBA officials--it's purple and gold. If a call can be made to benefit the L*kers, they'll make the call.

Michael Holton, aside from being the worst color commentator ever, can bite me with his defense of the officials right now. I'd tell him to go back to coaching if he wasn't so inept at that too.

the last call should of been a no-call because both players were holding.

fine, OK, no call because both were holding. THEN, MORROW GRABBED RUDY'S JERSEY. A HAND FULL OF JERSEY WITH A CLOSED FIST --> FOUL, probably a breakaway foul.

No there would of been no breakaway foul and Rudy would of tied it up.

    Emailed in as well, fwiw.

Frustrating game, to say the least. But I guess try to keep this in perspective, it's 1 game out of 82. Just hope some bullshit like this doesn't occur in the playoffs. Holton just said on the 5th quarter that the call on Rudy was the ballgame, and I totally agree. Bad, bad, bad, bad call.

Also, Golden State played the game of their life tonight. I don't know what it was, but if they played this good every night, they would be a top seed in the playoffs. 33/35 from the FT line, scrappy and energized on defense throughout the night, and a solid shooting night. :sigh:

The same one as everyone else. Unlike many of you, I am able to keep some perspective and realize that, no, the referees are not out to get Portland. That, no, Portland does not get screwed by refs on a weekly basis. And that, no, the game was not as one-sided as some of the crybabies on this board would claim it was.

Perspective, my ass. I didn't mention anywhere that they were "out to get Portland." I am just bitching about a missed call that went against my team. That last call against Rudy was a blatant mistake and had a major impact on the outcome of the game.

I can't recall the last time I've discussed the refs. It's not being a crybaby discussing the poor officiating. Maggette was rewarded for flopping. GO didn't get at least three calls because he was so strong he just powered through the contact. Rudy's call was complete BS and the T was just silly.

You're not appearing reasonable by disagreeing with us and questioning our motives, Ed. Rather, you're appearing like you need glasses.

Yup we got pretty screwed by the refs. It doesn't help that we went 20 for 29 at the line while they shot 33 for 35. They normally shoot 75%, so that was pretty weird.

It also doesn't help that LA did his best Dirk imitation. Do you mean to tell me he can't just turn and shoot over Maggetty? He did do that once. 4pts and 4 rebounds is not going to get it done. Frankly, the play of LA tonight disgusted me. If your big, play big but not stupid. LA played like he was too small to be on the floor. Don't think for one second other teams are going to watch this tape and do the same thing to him if they can. He doesn't figure this kind of crap out and he can kiss dreams of being an all-star good bye.

Even with the refs calling the game absurdly tight, we still could have won the game. Unfortunately our point guards coated their hands with butter before the game. The only three players who actually played even reasonably well were Roy, Oden and Priz. Everyone else was poor to horrid.

It was one game where I kind of thought maybe DNPiago should have gotten some run.

Even though the loss makes me mad, Oden played exactly like he should against a small team. He bullied them around on offense and forced them to move their big men out to the 3point line on defense. Unfortunately not one other player out there with him crashed the boards.

I'm with you that the game wasn't one-sided. As long as you don't try to justify the last call then I think you make some good points. There is no way you can defend a call where the ref makes a guess at a call because he is out of position and makes an assumption based on something he clearly couldn't see.

Two rules I was taught as a ref:

    1) Right call, right place, right time. Make a good call, while in position, and make it in a timely manner. This ref was 1 for 3 here, he made a bad call, out of position, but right on time.

    2) Trust your partner(s), if you don't see it, don't call it. He clearly violated this rule. Despite what many people think, refs don't have certain calls or players depending what area you're in. If you're at half court but you see a foul under the hoop, you call it. Likewise, if you're under the hoop, and you are blocked out, but there might have been a foul, you can't call it. You need to see it call it.

If you can call a game following those two rules, it's difficult for the players, coaches, and fans to be mad at you. Worst case scenario, you miss a call, go over to the coach and say you may have missed it, you were out of position, and you're going to do your best to make sure you're in position next time. Usually coaches will respect for admitting you might be wrong, but you'll do your very best to make sure it doesn't happen again.

    condescend much... geez.

I just got back from the game and am not surprised that there are several threads on how badly the game was officiated. Just horrible. Waaaaaaay too many calls and of course most of the ticky tacs went against the visitors. The worst of this embarrassment was Maggette's flop machine act vs Aldridge... wasn't that going to be a finable tactic this year? The way the 1st quarter went I was pretty sure I was going to be witnessing a loss. It had that Donaghy stink all over it.

One thing I'd disagree with the sentiment of what I've read on the board is that Rudy did deserve the Tech at the end. He was badgering the official (following what appeared to be a terrible call) in an open way that usually gets rung up.

On the positive end of things as a hoops fan, Greg was looked impressive and that last Travis dunk was picture perfect. The crowd was going nuts for Morrow... dude's shot is super smooth and he looks like he has complete confidence.

your constantly calling out the mods is misguided. They aren't flexing their super mod powers, they're just posting while you're just bitching
