Looks like the Nuggets made a brilliant move, and Camby has done next to nothing on the Clippers. Thoughts?
To his credit...he hasn't been very healthy yet, and they've also played him out of position at the 4 on quite a few occasions. His minutes are also down by 8mpg from last year and 4mpg for his career, so that's not helping his cause either. But yes, I would say that the Nuggets won the trade. They got rid of his contract and were able to turn the full time center duties to Nene, who has been great this year, averaging 15/8 on a RIDICULOUS 64% shooting.
When Nene goes down, and history says it will happen, what then? I still don't get trading for a top defensive PG like Billups AFTER trading away a solid interior defender like Camby. The two of them on the same team would have been great IMO. IF Nene is finally healthy and plays 70+ games this year, then it will have been a good move... otherwise, there's still plenty of time for this to come and bite them in the ass.
good at blocking shots, great rebounder, did win DPOY.. even if cpaw disagrees with it. Yeah he is getting old so he's slowing down, but he's a better defender than 70% of the big men in the league I'd say.
Camby might not be a "great" defender, but he is pretty good. His stats may have been inflated to an extent because of how often he had to be utilized because of the poor perimeter defense, but it still doesn't take away from the fact that he is a solid defensive player. Without him, the opponents would have gotten even more easy shots at the hoop.
the clippers have been terrible, but camby has been putting up similar numbers to the ones he put up in denver, especially if you adjust them for minutes. and his contract really isn't too horrible. it was a bad move for the clippers because they aren't going anywhere this year and should have realized that, but i still don't like the move for denver unless they use the trade exception they got to get something of value. there would be a better team with camby than they are without him.
