What would you like to see in a power forward? If you could build or create the perfect power forward what tendencies would you want in such a player? Size wise you would be looking for someone in the height range of say six foot 10 to say 7 feet. Weight wise you want him fast so in the range of 245 to 265. Now the other attributes: Speed and quickness Athleticism Defensive Presence Control the paint Ability to guard all power forwards fast or strong Good shot, both inside and have 3 point range Shot blocker Lockdown defender Good foul shooter in the 80%+ range Take his man off the dribble to the hoop Great post moves on offense facing or with back to the basket Good rebounder High basketball IQ Good Passer Work well in the pick and roll Yi RA SW Speed and quickness X X Athleticism X X Defensive Presence X X Controls the paint X Ability to guard all power forwards - fast X X - Strong X Good shot, both inside and have 3 point range X X Shot blocker X X X Lockdown defender X Good foul shooter in the 80%+ range X X X Take his man off the dribble to the hoop X X X Great post moves on offense facing or with back to the basket X Good rebounder X X High basketball IQ X X Good Passer X X Work well in the pick and roll X X Now the nets have 3 power forwards. They have Yi, Ryan and swat. I believe between all three potential star power forwards on the nets collectively have all the attributes to be the perfect power forward Maybe Frank can figure out a way to have all three play power forward by committee.
Kenyon Martin was perfect. Especially in his last year of the Nets when he started to extend his midrange out.
You should have "Finishes around the basket" It's important and Yi is terrible at it. (I'm so racist.)
Duncan is the best PF to ever play the game, and he doesn't have all those attributes. So don't be hoping too severely for Frank to figure out how to create your perfect PF.
What about Malone as one of the greatest PF's as well. Derrick Coleman was also a great PF for a while with Buck Williams. I could have also included enforcer as well.
Well really so far this year i have no complaints on how frank is handling the rookies. He's making them competitive, and fight for their minutes. He could run this position by committee as he has done in the past.
