Kobimel started a separate thread with the following quote: Does this change the equation at all with regard to Krstic? Remember, the Nets still hold his rights. They could trade him . . . or, in the event they trade Boone or Sean, they could probably sign him RIGHT NOW and have him join the team . . . which undoubtedly he would, if he isn't getting paid over there. This is an additional variable that may make it easier to trade a big man like Sean or Boone: The Nets would be able to replace them with a bigman. And again, they could probably trade his rights if it looked like he would come over immediately. Yesterday, Triumph won 108-76. Krstic started, but played just 15 minutes. He scored 10 points on 3-7 shooting (4-4 from the line) and 5 rebounds--not bad on a per-minute rate. A few days earlier, they lost 72-65 to a team with Carlos Delfino, Jorge Garbajosa, and Maciej Lampe (who was the high scorer). Krstic sccored seven points and had 4 rebounds in 16 minutes. Krstic was horrible last year, but if there's a chance he could come back immediately, it might be easier to swallow the loss of Boone or Sean in a deal for someone like Wallace. Any thoughts?
I think this is an awesome thought Dumpy, kudos. If that's really what Thronikipedia is cooking up, I will be damn impressed.
It won't be easy to pry him away from Europe, but very interesting idea Dumpy. Finance is becoming a problem all over the world, even to those Russian multi-billionaires who own teams like Triumph, Khimki, etc. Obviously a team like Triumph (Krstic's team) is less dependent on sponsors than a team like CSKA and more dependent on their owners' money... This is where the problem of no European Players Union kicks in. There's nobody there to get the players the money they deserve.
The Nets have an offer of $2.7 million on the table...a one year deal. What is key here is how their contracts are written. If indeed they are terminated after a certain period without pay--and I doubt it's one payday--then FIBA would have to declare the contract null and void before any NBA team could sign any of these guys. And remember, Boki Nachbar and Jannero Pargo play on Russian teams.
it's a blog. http://www.ballineurope.com/womens-basketball/crisis-reaches-russia-delfino-refuses-to-play/ I agree; the key issue is probably whether these teams can be found to be in breach of their contracts, and if so, whether their players will immediately become free agents. However, w/r/t Krstic, doesn't he have a clause in his contract that allows him to terminate his contract if he has an opportunity to return to the NBA? It's possible that there is a "window" to opt out, and he can't do it during a season, but who knows.
even if the nets trade SWat or boone, we would still have lopez, stro, ryan, yi, najera and either sean or josh so nenad still not needed...
However, Ryan, Yi, and Najera can't play center, and Stro and Sean are really too small to play center for long parts of a game; they'll get abused like Sean was by Cleveland. The issue isn't the number of "big men", but really the number of centers.
I've read in Russian press that Nenad is the main disappointment there. So are Garbahosa and Delfino. The only one who somewhat justifies big contract is... Zoran Planinic.
You wouldn't be interested in trading Boone or Williams and bringing in Gerald Wallace and Krstic? That sounds great to me!
I just don't think Kristic will be half as good as he used to be. Heck, I think Boone may be a better player than Kristic now. Sean had a good game last night too, I'm one of those people who's not counting him out yet.
KRSTIC is done i do not want to see his weak game on this team ever again. we have big men that are playing hard and showing emotion (except yi) we dont need that mummy no where near this young team.
