NY and Chicago certainly have that edge in attractiveness to the city, but the last few years, those teams have been mediocre at best. There's been a lot of teams that have tried to clear cap room in the past, i.e. Denver when Kiki was there, Orlando when they went after TMac and Grant Hill, Chicago already when they found out they had a bunch of cap space but no one wanted to sign with them in the late 90's I think. And those teams stunk it up. NY is banking a lot on two years from now and getting LeBron, when I think New Jersey is at the head of that list with their new arena opening and LeBron's relationship with Jay-Z who's a minority owner of the Nets. Detroit has also made a play to clear cap room. Nowadays, I think you have to build teams through the draft. You look at us, San Antonio drafted Parker, Manu and Duncan... Utah drafted Deron.. New Orleans drafted Chris Paul ... Orlando with Dwight Howard. etc.
Do you think the Clippers will be better or worse after this trade and is this enough to get them into the play offs? ZBo and Baron is a pretty effective scoring duo... fortunately they'll let the opponent score pretty effectively as well so it may be a wash.
Meh, just a straight salary dump by the Knicks. That organization is seriously mucked up. They bring in a high profile coach - who actually succeeds in improving the team - then cut his legs off. They are trying to pacify the fans with all the blather about LeBron in 2010.....but I have a sick feeling they really *mean* it! They don't understand the difference between a "hope" and a "plan."
When I heard about the trade, my first thought was that this is only half the deal - that they have an offer on the table for Camby or Kamen.
Re: OT: zBO must GO [again]!!! i doubt it, since he can play either guard spot and they want durant at SF full time.
This isn't JUST about LeBron. New York freed up enough money to afford TWO max contracts in 2010. They can sign LeBron and Wade or Stoudamire or Bosh or Ming or Nowitzki or...
Yeah, it's in limbo right now. And I don't see LeBron going to New Jersey. He wants to play in New York, if there isn't a stadium in the Bronx that leaves the Knicks.
It really would be only for one year. Keep in mind, the Nets will have a much stronger foundation, and if they can move Vince, can also sign two big free agents.
NY is clearing cap space and trying desperately to stay in the lottery this year. They got little in return but dumped $. Clips just got dangerous. Zach at last gets to play for a coach he can learn from.
I was going to say the same thing. It isn't all about bron but the wealth of talent in that FA class is amazing. If they could pull off a Wade and Bosh/Amare that would look pretty good.
Yep. This is what I think is the plan. This is Donnie Walsh here. Not Isiah. Step One. Get a committment from Bosh. Backup plan to Bosh: Amare, Nowitzki, Ming or Chandler. Whoever still looks worth a big contract. Step Two. Sign up LeBron. If they manage to get LeBron AND Bosh, the rest of the roster is really incidental, and the fact that NY had nothing on their roster becomes a non-issue.
i'm more worried about the clips this year. if that locker room doesn't explode, there is a decent chance they make the playoffs.
There has been rumors that the Clippers want to move Kaman and his salary... now they add Zach and HIS salary? The Clippers got a good deal in terms of talent and value, but I wonder if Camby (or Zach, or Chris) will be happy coming off the bench for a lottery team. It all seems to point to LA moving Kaman in the near future... Ed O.
The Kincks are going to have $28 mil in free cap space in 2010 because of the trades they made today, that not only makes them able to sign LeBron James to a max contract, but also go after one of the other 20 or so free agents that year and offer them $10 mil per year. The Knicks aren't just doing this for LeBron, but doing it so they can go after TWO stars in 2010. Edit: Oops, should read whole thread before posting
I wonder if the Clips will trade Kaman for Gerald Wallace. A starting lineup of: Baron Davis Eric Gordon Gerald Wallace Zach Randolph Marcus Camby Could be scary if they're able to play together. I suppose Roach would play over Eric Gordon at this point. Who knows.
I'm sad. Zach is having a 20/12 year so far, the Knicks are winning, and I was having a fun time rooting for him/them. Now that he's with the Clippers, he's playing for the enemy. I can't root for him to join the playoff race. It will be sad to root against a guy I rooted for for so many years.
