Lopez has a lot more proving to do. Even after his rookie year.

And the Clippers took Randolph before they did Carter.

I would take Lopez over Lee in a heartbeat. Nate is special, though.

Your cap space is a little deceiving, though. Since you only will have a few players on the roster so you'll need to sign guys like Lee/Nate, etc. and that will eat up some space.

How has Randolph been more productive than Carter?

He's been more efficient as a scorer, turns the ball over less even though he plays with the ball in his hands more, is above average for a SG as a passer (Randolph is a below avg passer, even for a PF), both rebound extremely well for their positions

That's understandable. But the Knicks core: Lee/Robinson/Chandler/Gallo is quite solid, contrary to what some were saying a few months ago.

You're right, nothing is set in stone. I'm confident Walsh can somehow get rid of Curry or Jeffries. He's not close to being done dealing. If he manages to do this, then we can re-sign both comfortably and still be in a great position to sign LeBron.

Wait. You're telling me Brook has a lot of proving to do, but then put Gallo in your core?

Probably because Carter isn't, at the time, on the market (for that cheaply, anyway).

    And it's the Clippers.

Jeffries could opt out after 2009 to lock in more money. He's only guaranteed 6.8 mil in 2010. I think that's a possibility.

Curry would get 11.3 mil in 2010, probably will stay on. I think NY will be able to trade him before the deadline to a team that is on the bubble and needs a post scorer -- especially if NY gives them a pick. NY will probably have to showcase Curry anyway since they are thin in the middle.

Randolph has a higher PER and his team had the better record. Last time I checked (could have changed) Randolph has been top 3 in rebounding in the NBA, and in upper echelon in double-doubles.

Carter has a higher PER. And a better record? NY is up by 1/2 a game after 12 games. Hardly relevant.

    Carter has been better.

    Carter plays defense. Randolph doesn't.

As my friend KingSpeed says: Checkmate.

I never said Gallo didn't have to prove himself. They both do. There's a difference in saying Lopez is a solid addition to your core and saying Lopez will be a key reason why LeBron will join the Nets.

The Clippers stupidity makes Randolph easier to trade.

And the Nets valuing Carter more means he will be more difficult to trade.

You're right about the PER, I definitely misread it for some reason.

The Knicks game doesn't count yesterday since Randolph wasn't playing. As for the previous 11, the Knicks have been better than the Nets.

Even so, Randolph and Carter's production has been similar, Randolph is 4 years younger, a big man, with a similar contract to VC. I wouldn't say he is "much easier" to move.

Ok so the Knicks were one game ahead, do you think that's significant? And while Randolph is younger, Carter only has two more years on the deal and isn't showing signs of slowing down. And he has a history of being more productive and not getting into legal trouble.

Carter plays defense. Carter creates offense. Carter leads.

Z-Bo rebounds. He shoots outside shots. He doesn't play defense. He is an offensive blackhole. He is a malcontent.

The Nets are better than anyone thinks. They certainly have weaknesses, but they are going to surprise a lot of people and will be well positioned for a #4-6 seed next year.

Remember that the Nets are still trying to figure out how to play together. And, not counting the games where Devin Harris was injured, they are 5-2, including wins over Detroit, Toronto, and two over Atlanta.

Opposing SGs are averaging 21 points on 50% shooting this season against Carter.

By shooting outside jumpers, Z-Bo keeps opposing shot blockers out the paint to open dribble penetration and kick-out opportunities. That's plenty offense he creates. He also creates second chance points with offensive rebounds.

Carter also has a history of mailing it in, which Zach doesn't.

But this is turning into a Zach v Carter debate. The point is Zach's value isn't as low as you think; lending credence to this is the fact that he just got traded. And if Nets dump Carter, it will be to clear salary. With that move they will lose their best player and only be worse.

All this hype over James. If neither Knicks or the Nets show they're serious about winning he will likely stay in Cleveland. Now the Knicks do have the chance to sign two players out of 2010 pool. Similar T-mac and Grant Hill. That will be very attractive to James if he is yet to win a championship. Plus the Knicks do have the advantage of already being in New York.

The Nets can still pick up a good player but shouldn't bet on James cause him and Hova are boys. Dame Dash and Jaz-O were once too. friends is friends business is business.

    Memphis Bleek doesn't count

That's stupid. No, Lebron wouldn't play in New Jersey for $200 mil over the tenure of the contract, but God forbid we had FINISHED UNAVOIDABLE plans to get into NY the next year he'd sure as hell sign and wait out the damn year for $200 mil.

I didn't make much of a point there, but neither does someone else throwing out generic numbers for something two years down the road making a prediction.
