I've been listening to the myspace stream for two days now, and I have to admit, I really like "Chinese Democracy." I grew up listening to G 'n R as well, but had pretty much given up on hearing Axl again. This isn't a G 'n R album, this is an Axl album, and I'm totally digging it. Well done!
Yeah it's cool, probably not worth the wait but 17 years is a long time, least we finally have something. As PFans said it's Axl's hired guns NOT Guns N Roses. He's the only original member.
I know, I don't mind when a singer is the only one left...even though Slash is great. I don't like it when a new singer takes over a band, even if everyone else is original. weird
Wow. That was bad. It sounded like some dude singing in front of computer generated music. Major letdown.
Bands have their time and their place. I'd love another record by The Jam or Material Issue, but part of the magic of their music was how they captured the era. I still get goosebumps every time I hear the opening riff to "Sweet Child O' Mine", but that music can't be recreated, no matter how you try to package it. For that reason, I was always secretly happy the Beatles never reunited.
Pretty mediocre rock. Some of it sounded like Rose trying to rip off Metallica from the '80s. Just not very well. He's over 17 years removed from his last work and over 21 years removed from his last good work. Artistically, there wasn't much point to this, but I guess it'll make a fair amount of money just from noteriety.
I think you guys are being a bit mean to poor Axl. The guy seems to be a headcase. I feel bad for him. But, if he had put out 3 or 4 albums between the last two I don't think people would jump all over it as much. I don't think music is like a car, if you spend years restoring a car it SHOULD turn out better than if you did it in a couple of months. What he should have done is recorded a bunch of songs years ago by himself and released them over the years so he would be "reeee-itch beeee-itch"
This was somewhat set up to fail. Its just going to be compared to the old GnR, and that isn't happening. But judging it for its own thing, I don't hate it.
eh, not impressed. sounds a little generic, and not at all original. and has really none of the appeal of his earlier stuff. i didnt hear a radio hit, imo.
I might get slammed here, but... Kurt Cobain dying was the best thing that could have happened to Nirvana. They will be forever remembered in time as the biggest band/voice of a generation. Thank god we didnt have to listen to a "found god" album released in the late 1990's (Billy Corrigan), or try to pass off as still relevant and new (Foo Fighters). Bands always fade out. I cant think of one good example of a musician/band who has spanned over 20 years of relevant music. Tom Petty, maybe. Bob Dylan, close. Red Hot Chili Peppers, nope.
David Bowie could qualify, depending on what you thought of his '80s output. Radiohead has a chance. They released their first album in 1993. So they're 15 years in and their last album was great. They're still essentially the biggest band in the world.
Uh, really? Listen to "Better" and tell me it doesn't have a chance to catch on. That is one catchy as hell song.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers still make some pretty good music. Its not as good as their old stuff from the 80s and early 90s, but their live shows with the improvisations are still bad ass. They are still relevant, and its just different. Too main stream for me, but its def. not bad. Flea and John Frusciante (and even the drummer Chad Smith) are just one of the best musician combos, specially live, that i have ever seen.
