I can barely watch other team's announcers. They just seem so corny and annoying to me. Last night watching teh suns it was just annoying when Shaq dunked and the announcer said "move out of the way young fella!! I'm not ready to give up my throne just yet!!" Is this how are announcers are and we just don't notice it because we are homers? I can barely watch any other teams announcers.
From reading other team's forums, our announcers are the biggest homers in the league. That is what other people say anyway.
They're certainly one of them. The color analyst for the Cavs is the worst announcer I have ever, ever seen.
Ours are pretty bad. The way last night they were talking abou thow Porter was in a hurry to get Shaq in for Amare, because Amare could just do nothing with Oden, even though I think they had each scored 4 points off eachother. And when Shaq traveled, with oden on him, they made some comment about him not being able to get by him, even though he was by him, and was able to do so seemingly when he wanted. Ours are really bad. I'm embarrassed listening to our announcers generally.
They are Homers because they work for the home team. They really love the Blazers, just like the fans. Much better than the uninterested approach taken by the Snapper. MB and Rice work for the blazers not the opposing team.
well they are pretty biased and have the 'rose tinted glasses' on, but that's what they are paid for.... I do prefer more neutral commentary though - two sides to every game.
This will sound homeristic, but the nets announcers are the best, as far as i can tell--because they are LEAST homeristic. They are just entertaining.
I am sure our annoucers are annoying. No question. But I hate ALMOST everyone elses. They are all homers now. All biased. So as a Blazer fan I am extremely disappointed when I have to listen to the other team's announcers on League Pass. Unless we win then it is kind of fun.
I watch a lot of league pass and my room mate is a Warriors fan, and I have found their guys to be some of the least homer announcers in the NBA. Also, I live in Arizona, and the Suns announcers are the WORST in the nba. They have stupid corny nick names for players, they think their roster is 100 all-stars deep, they never agree with calls that are against the Suns, they dont know any players on any other teams (unless they played for the Suns), and they talk about how they should have won the championship/how they are going to win the championship every game. Even the Suns fans I know down here dislike the announcers. Second worse to them are the Kings announcers.
I don't mind homer announcers as long as they can see a foul as a foul. If you are blinded to reality by homerism you should be fired. A while back a bunch of teenagers in Vegas attacked a security guard in a casino parking lot. The police caught them all and one of their mothers was interviewed on the news. I was so happy for the mother that she didn't defend her kid with the usual "he is just a good kid, he would never do that" bullshit. Instead, she said her son needed to go to jail and learn from his mistakes. I would have given her an award of some sort if I were mayor. (our real mayor is too busy having cocktails with strippers) I liked Snapper the most, I sometimes thought he might be going too far to the extreme to criticize the team, but I still preferred that.
I honestly think the Lakers are good with keeping down the homerism...When other color commentator will strongly object when they think there was a bad call against his team our color guy (Stu Lantz) will suggest he saw something different but say he was wrong because refs dont make mistakes....lol
I think it's great. Mike and Mike are fans. With the reactions we get as fans, they get the same reaction. When Rudy hit that turn around jumper to put the nail in the coffin against Miami, you were in shock with Mike Rice as he was giggling along at how awesome that was. Mike and Mike are blazer fans just like the rest of us, I would rather agree with them on a bad call made by officiating then by disagreeing with them on stupid stuff. I think they're fine!
They def. are if you watch the team from an unbias perspective... as a portland fan and just watching 'em on local channels and stuff I think they are good, but of course somewhat irratating... Mike Rice does get on my nerves about how he never says anything bad about a Portland player and then when they are traded just lashes out. I don't like that... its little things like that, that get irratating. But overall, as a fan of portland, I like them.
We've talked about this in the past. I've had the league pass for 8 years and have seen all the other teams announcers many times. Mike and Mike are most definitely in the top 4 or 5 in the league. 95% of the other announcers are just as much or even more homers then our guys. Get the league pass and you'll see how lucky we are to have these guys.
