As I watched last night I was thinking how unbeneficial it will be to lose a shot blocking big especially when the back up SF/SG's allow so much dribble penetration. I don't know how this will be fixed CDR is now extremely important to this team's future because he can move step for step w/ anyone almost like a young Scottie Pippen. Now the Nets in the next few weeks have to add a SF atleast someone 6'5 and above who can move step for step and has the IQ to rub off on CDR and other young players on this roster. We're not going to get it from Trenton Hassell, Simmons is muscle w/ too many prone mistakes.

Targets the Nets need to inquire about.

    John Salmons
    Jeff Green
    Gerald Wallace
    Thabo Sefolosha

some young high IQ perimeter defenders that can move stride for stride and stop dribble penetration, force jump shots w/ hands in thier face. It is a huge need that the Nets need to move forward on as soon as possible especially if they want to limit the unneeded foul chances on thier young front court. Discuss.

They were definitelly exposed last night at the 3 position. Simmons is just not an NBA starter at this point. And CDR is too undersized, he's a 2. Wish they could play Vince at the 3. How about Stromile? Throw him out there at the 4 and let Yi play the 3.

IQ wise and step for step wise not ideal for that spot. I'm afraid if we are to upgrade in this area we have to shop outside of this team for it. Either via 2009 draft or via trades in 08/09. IDK how many times we saw them switch off and get exposed because Hayes and Anderson just couldn't keep Ariza behind the paint, he crashed the board and dished off and what resulted from that was wide open 3's or dish off lay ups putting our bigs in bad position.

I don't see this sound defense from Simmons that people are talking about. Sure, he's strong for a SF and has some savvy, but he's not quick laterally.

The Nets have setup a lot of their contracts to expire after the end of next season for the 2010 free agency. But I think it has been reported the Nets won't be moving to Brooklyn until 2011. So is 2010 free agency still a viable option?

    Simmons 10 million
    Swift 6.2 million
    Hassell 4.35 million
    Najera 3.4 million
    Dooling 3.3 million
    Ager 1 million

    Total:28.5 million

Use Yi(2.5 million), Sean(1.3 million), draft picks with the contracts above in a trade.

    Harris/?/?
    Carter/CDR/?
    ?/Hayes
    ?/Anderson/?
    Lopez/Boone/?

The question marks in the starting lineup are the glaring needs that need to be filled with trades for quality players. And the question marks in the backup positions could be filled with minimum level players.

Nets could potentially use 32.3 million in contracts to fill in the 2 starting forward positions with very good players and fill the backup bench positions with some minimum level players in a trade. Only problem is there don't seem to be any star PF's that would be available for trade (missed Gasol by a year, damn it).

So that means hoping Yi figures things out soon while also trying to upgrade the starting SF position. Maggette or Miller are on my wish list for now.

Yi can not play the 3. He does have the lateral quickness to stay with 3's.

Wait for CDR to return. Don't trade any prospects (kids or draft picks) for a SF.

Also, let's see what Najera can provide if he ever gets healthy.

Let Anderson play SF. From what I hear, he has super Bball IQ, aggressiveness and tremendous upside.

But can he guard SFs, and will being guarded by SFs hinder RA's offensive game?
