Well right now I can't put Larry Brown in the top 5 for the "current" NBA season cause he has proven how he can't run a good team. So my top 5 for now are:Greg PopovichMike D'AntoniAvery JohnsonRick CarlislePhil Jacksonnow if we are doing the top 5 active coaches...then its a bit differentPhil JacksonPat RileyLarry BrownJerry Sloan/George KarlGreg Popovich
Is this for this years or overall?Gregg Popavic (<Censored> that, i don't know how to spell it.)No explanation needed. You all know how good he is. He's a no nonsense guy that teaches discipline and hard work, and it's payed off w/ a few titles.Rick Carlisle- Great at keeping his players composed (forget about the brawl). Their season last year should've been down the drain, but they advanced to the second round and got a 2-1 lead over the Pistons.Scot Skiles- Stresses aggressive defense, and helped a very young, inexperienced team make the playoffs. He taught even soft players to play hard-nosed defense, or they would not play. Just look at Ben Gordon. Excellent offensive player, but he stunk at defense, and he sat. I respect a coach that has that much discipline and balls to do that.Avery Johnson- He stresses hard-nosed defense to a soft team, and they listened. Just look at their record and tell me he's a bad coach. They aren't that deep, not extremely talented, but they have the 3rd best record in the league.Bernie Bickerstaff- He teaches aggressive defense, and allows his players to explore the strongpoints in their games. He is a good teacher to young talent, and he sets his rotations well. His team has by far the least talent in the league, and they finished much better than expected last season.notice- NO LARRY BROWN. He's overrated out the <Censored>.
If we are talking this year here is how it goes....1. Avery Johnson, no one expected the Mavericks to be THIS good.2. Flip Saunders, added a great offense to make the Pistons the best team in the NBA.3. Greg Popovich, Spurs at top of West despite injuries.4. Mike Dunleavy, The Clippers? Who woulda thunk it?5. Byron Scott, most people picked the Hornets to have the worst record in the league. He will have them in the playoffs.
