Don't even go there, nobody dare touch a thing and mess up the team's chemistry. Look what happened to Josh Howard after Devin left Dallas. Don't mess with our infamous backcourt! Bug off!

First, anyone proposing a trade where the Nets receive more players than they give up needs to stop it unless a buy-out would be really cheap. The Nets already have the maximum number of contracts they can take on...

You need to think of teams that are in "win-now" mode but who are also not "championship caliber" either, so forget about the Lakers and Cavs and Grizzlies and Bobcats and so forth. We're talking about teams slightly above the playoff bubble here, ala the Mavericks of last year. Everybody else thinks they can win with what they have or is contract-dumping for 2010.

    Therefore,

Blazers -- they need veteran leadership. Arguably they can afford to give up one of their young studs to get it.
Nets -- follow the same formula as the Kidd/Harris trade --> expiring contract if they can get it, plus a young up-and-comer

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...2982~136~454~3027&teams=22~22~17~17&te=&cash=

Ager thrown in for the number of players to work out. If this proposal falls through, there's always the backup, Denver Nuggets, with whom Kiki is very familiar. Assuming they don't want to deal Carmelo for Vince straight-up, then how about:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...6~1713~2444~3467&teams=7~7~17~17~17&te=&cash=

Yes, that one is less likely. Nets would have to buy out Weems; I threw him in to make the salaries match up. Denver might not be in win-now mode, but Chauncy Billups isn't getting any younger, either. And Melo, VC, and Billups is not that bad, really. Meanwhile, Nets have to take on Nene's contract (which probably makes this trade unlikely to begin with). But they get J.R., whom they like and is young. I admit this one is a stretch, all things considered.

Then there's Utah. They might like their current roster. While I like the idea of persuing Brewer, nothing matches up contractually unless you throw in Kirilenko, and that's just too much firepower to give up to be plausible. And just Kirilenko and Korver together doesn't sound right, either. Where's the young stud?

And the Clippers, Suns and Orlando don't seem to have young players the Nets wound want. I mean does this really invigorate anybody? http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...s=2982~136~45~862&teams=19~19~17~17&te=&cash=

    I like the first 2 trades :D But I doubt it's possible.

Brandon Roy for Vince Carter? Right.

Yes, Roy is too good for Carter. It's basically too early. I don't see anything out there in the market for Vince Carter right now.

How committed to winning is Miami? They probably want to keep Wade around, so they need to give him a compelling reason to stay. The Nets won't take back Marion...he has a bad attitude and he doesn't fill a need.

    Does Beasley play SF?

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...=2982~136~3418~70&teams=14~14~17~17&te=&cash=

The problem with this is that the Nets are screwed at SG for the rest of the season. And VC and Wade play the same position. Arrrrgggg. But in 2010 if you're the Nets, you throw everything at Wade or Brandon Roy. Time to realize that LBJ is unlikely to come here.

I don't really see any other possible trades for VC, though. It's either too early in the season to make an assessment or else the market truly just isn't there.

    Ok, I'm done now ;)

Both Roy and Beasley are much too much to give up for Carter. Roy is already on Carter's level.

Ok, I respect your opinion.

Here's my best offer yet, imo, even though it's complicated since the salary configurations and the rule of "only 15 players per roster" necessitates it:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...2444~3197&teams=7~29~29~17~22~17~22&te=&cash=

    What do you guys think?

J.R. Smith goes to the Nets (a young up-and-coming SG to replace Vince's same position; and John Hollinger loves him, lol). They also get an expiring contract, just like the formula of the Kidd/Harris trade.

Denver frees up cap space by unloading Nene Halario's salary and upgrades at SG with Vince Carter. Their starting lineup is Billups, VC, Melo, Kenyon Martin, and ? at Center (the hold-up would be who replaces Nene...:dunno:)

Portland adds to their front line and gets a point guard by only giving up LaFrentz who they don't want anyway.

And Memphis does a little Crittendon for Sean Williams swap. Diogu thrown in to make the 15 player maximum work for Portland. No big deal for them but they at least they solve the log-jam at PG, right?

Otherwise, I don't see any other viable options for trading Carter...the role of GM is harder than it looks, lol.

Your trade doesn't work -- it gives Miami 16 players, so you need to explain which guy they'd buy out.

I went through great pains in my trades to pay attention the "15 player maximum" rule.

At the end of the day, I could see the Nets just doing something simple like this (with the Nets throwing in a second round pick) and riding out the rest of the season:

I still think this makes the most sense:

    POR out:Raef/Blake/Outlaw/Bayless
    POR in: Nash/Simmons

We get a quarterback to direct our offense and give it a shot for a couple of years while helping our young guys develop quicker (and gain playoff experience) while consolidating. Only downside is it costs us a lot of damn money, but having PA as owner has some benefits. Simmons would likely be bought out.

    Nash/Sergio
    Roy/Rudy
    Webster/Batum
    Aldridge/Frye
    Oden/Pryzbilla

    PHX out: Nash/Bell
    PHX in: Blake/Bayless/Hassel/Carter

They are decidedly a better team with more scoring after this deal, just need to make a move to get out Barbosa perhaps. But w/o adding salary get a lot more scoring threats in the half-court. Shaq has said he'd like to play with VC multiple times.

    Blake/Bayless
    Carter/Hassel
    Hill/Barnes
    Amare/Diaw
    Shaq/Lopez

certainly a lot more physical team.

    NJ out: Carter/Simmons/Hassel
    NJ in: Raef/Outlaw/Bell

You guys save a TON of money (trying to leverage for Brooklyn) and have nothing but Harris on your books in order to get over there (and good draft picks) and try to lure Lebron.
