This makes more sense for both teams than the previously mentioned Outlaw & filler for Conley & filler trade rumor. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=3195~2794~3417~2754&teams=22~22~29~29&te=&cash= Portland sends out Channing Frye and J. Bayless Memphis sends out: Mike Conley and H. Warrick Why Memphis does this trade: It gets them the starting PF and backup center they desperately need, and allows them to let Darko go back to Europe where he belongs. Bayless should be a very good back court scorer with Mayo. This makes them a better team. Why Portland does this trade: We get our pg of the future without giving up any starters. We let Warrick walk next year when his contract expires and bring Joel Freeland over from Europe to be our 3rd string center. Both teams are improved, win/win. Note: Why did KP spend 20 minutes talking to Bayless last night? Could it be that Bayless is unhappy with no playing time. We all know he isn't happy about it. Could he be secretly demanding a trade? Cash and picks could also be involved in this trade, as needed. What say you?
Yeah, he probably is. But it still doesn't consolidate any of our talent. And we still don't know what kind of player Jerryd can be. It's tough.. and I'm not really a big fan of Conley's.
Point guards don't typically break out until their 3rd year, or later. Conley has the talent and the track record, it's just a matter of time before he breaks out.
thats how I see it too. I think Mayo should be at the point. He's PG sized (about the same as JJack) and stated before the draft that he sees the point as his best position in the pros. The Griz just don't have another decent 2 guard as an option so it's Mayo by default. Outside of Mayo and Gay, I'm not intrigued by the guys on their roster as possible upgrades in Portland. STOMP
I like this deal even less than the rumoured one. I think Bayless is a much, much better talent than Conley Jr. I wasn't very impressed by Conley in college and he certainly hasn't proven me wrong in the NBA yet. I don't think he doesn't anything well by NBA standards. Bayless has the potential to be a very good defender, slasher and shooter at the NBA level. And a decent passer (not great for a point guard, but less important with Roy in the backcourt).
Why would we trade the best two players in the deal. Channing Frye is easily proved more than Warrick and Bayless has much more upside than Conley. Can't this kind of trade die yet?
If a trade happens, it must be quantity for quality: Trout, Raef, and Blake for a star PG - perhaps a Rondo or Calderon? I could see Boston going for Trout... iWatas
we might get calderon in 2 years when bosh opts out and they blow the team up. until then would take way more than outlaw and blake.
I'm thinking that GrayBeard must not really be a Blazer fan or is passively trying to hurt the team with these trades. How can you suggest that this trade provides any value for the Blazers.
That, and neither Calderon nor Rondo are acquirable now because one is BYC, and the other is on a rookie contract. Still, if we want a quality PG, it has to be someone who actually makes a TEAM better. That list is short, and very short if we are talking about younger players (not Nash/Kidd/Davis). iWatas
Calderon? This guy has to be one of the worst defensive PG's in the game. His defense is truly atrocious. Conley doesn't have the value of an Outlaw yet. But the guy can be a very good backup PG to Bayless (or whomever we tab as our PG of the future). He's a smart player and has the potential to be an above average defender.
