After this season Matt Cassel will be a free agent. Most think he will go to Vikings or Lions, what do you think?

I wonder what the chances are the Pats will franchise him.

ACL injuries are tough, you have no idea how long is going to take Tom Brady to return to form. You put the tag on him, trade him if Brady comes back healthy and get some picks out of it.

Lions would be smart to make a run at him.

I think the Patriots are definitely going to franchise him so they get something in return and also some say in where he ends up.

I think the Pats will find some way of keeping him. They'll need him as an insurance plan in case something goes wrong in Brady's recovery.

Minnesota, unless the Vikes trade for McNabb and draft an understudy to take McNabb's place in a couple seasons

Knowing the way things go sometimes, if the Pats trade him, it will probably be to an AFC East team. Why teams do this is beyond me. Jets probably as Favre's backup until he retires again.

The Jets could use Cassel after Favre leaves. Cassel would not want to sit on the bench any longer so he will go to a team that will start him. Passing 400+ yds a game does not deserve a spot on the bench even if you do have Randy Moss.

I'd love to see the Bucs go after him. We have a young, rock-solid o-line and enough weapons at RB and WR to make him successful. With Kiffin likely leaving at the end of the year we'll have to step up our offense a bit. Garcia's efficient, but he's just old as fuck.

I think the Patriots will franchise him. From there, they can keep him as insurance in case it takes Brady a little longer to come back. Or they could trade him. If they trade him, its a safe bet its to an NFC team.

There's no way the Patriots franchise him and keep him as a backup. His cap number will be like 12-13 million.

I guess I didn't clear that up to well (or actually, at all).

Franchise him, sign him to a longer term contract.... keep him as insurance in case Brady can't go to start the season.

I guess that could even still be too expensive. I have no idea what kind of contract he'd command.

He wouldn't sign a long term deal at a back up price when he knows he can make more by signing with a team like Minnesota who will make him the franchise QB from the start...also Ziggy and his wide open check book would easily give him 10mil a year...yes, the Vikes are that desperate....lol

You can say they would do a sign and trade with 'Sota...but what if Minnesota doesn't like the Pats demands? Then New England is stuck with an angry starter quality QB sitting the bench...knowing he could making money AND starting elsewhere...it's a big gamble since there is no way Cassel signs an extension unless he's starting

If they franchise him, NE has exclusive negotiating rights.

I don't know what the Salary Cap in NE is, but they would need a ton of money to keep Cassel. If they do franchise him there is no way he will be going to an AFC team.
